FOUNTAIN-PEN HANDLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 9, 1907.
Application filed December 7, 1906. Serial No. 346,699.
T 0 all wit/mt it HUI/[j concern.- 1
Be it known that I, FELIX L. S'rUnM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Viropa, in the county of Harrison, State of Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pen Handles, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to fountain-pen handles or stocks; and it is the object of the present improvements to provide a construction that willbe at once efficient and com tured at low cost so as to bring it upon the market and within the reach of users or consumers that cannot afford to pay a high price for pens of this character.
The nature of the invention is fully ascertainable from the device portrayed in the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, in view of which the construction and manner of using the device will first be described and then be pointed out in the subj oined claim.
Of the said drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention with a point and feed attached. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view with the point and feed removed.
Similar numerals of reference designate similar parts or features, as the case may be, wherever they occur.
In the drawings, 1.0 designates the penstock, which is made hollow to form a reservoir for the reception of the ink, and is internally screw-threaded at its inner end, as at 11, so as to be screwed upon the reduced exteriorly-screw-threaded projection 12, extending rearwardly from the head 13. The last-mentioned part constitutes an important feature of the invention, being made of a single part, having the elbow connection 14 with the stem or handle and being filled in below the elbow 14, as at 15, so that the lower part of the head shall afford a convenient and suifieient finger-grasp in the use I of the pen.
The head is provided with an elbow passage-way 16 therethrough in order to supply ink to the pen-point 17 through the medium of the feeding device 18, though the latter and the pen-point constitute no part of my improvements. Pen-points and feed-rcgulators are now sold as separate articles of manufacture, and the user of my improvements is at liberty to select such as may best suit his purpose or desires.
The end or nose 19 of the head is interiorly screw-tln'eaded in standard measure to suit fountain-pen tips or nozzles.
Beneath the nose 19 there is an undercut slit or groove 20, so that the cap 21, placed upon the rear end of the handle when the pen is out of use, may be'slipped upon the nose 19, which is of rounded form to fit when the pen is out of use or carried in the pocket.
It is to be particularly noted that by filling in the space below the elbow of the head a very convenient grasp is provided for the fingers of the hand. Furthermore, the complete device is made of but three parts, which may be made of indurated rubber or fiber or other suitable material at a very low cost of manufacture.
That is claimed is- A fountain-pen holder comprising a head of elbow form on its upper side having a passage-way therethrough conformable thereto; a hollow reservoirstock having a screwthreaded connection with the head and communicating with the said passage-way; the head being provided at its forward end with an interiorly scrow-threaded nose, and having its under side extending in the plane of the pen-stock, the head being furthermore provided with a groove below the nose; and a cap adapted to be fitted on the rear end of the reservoir-stock or on the nose.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AUBREY W. SHINN, ELLA STURM.
