Be it known that I, CLAES WM. BoMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a specication.

' The fountain-pen to which my invention relates is one in which the handle at its front endv is closed by a plug which is detachably connectedto an ink-reservoir contained within the handle, but removable therefrom, with the plug, for lling purposes. g A fountainpen having these general characteristics is not new with me.

My improvement resides in .the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter deview, on enlarged scale, of the plug and upscribed, whereby a tight joint between the reservoir andthe plug is insured, thuspreventing escape of ink at that point and consequent leakage of the same through to the joint between the plug and thehandle.

In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, Figure l is a Vlongitudinal axial section of the complete pen. Eig. 2 is a view of the reservoir and plug removed from' the handle and detached from one another. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional per part of the reservoir.

A is the tubular handle, which can be made of any suitable material, preferably hard rubber. w It is closed at its rear end, and at its open front end it is internally screw-threaded to receive the correspondingly externallyscrew-threaded tubular plug B, which constitutes the pen-tip and contains the feeder C, of any ordinaryor suitable construction, between which and the tip the pen D is inserted and held. Ink from the reservoir passes through the plug to the feeder and thence to the pen.

The plug in rear of its screw-thread is reduced in diameter slightly, so as to form a neck d, the exterior of which is slightly tapered, as shown, and is designed to fit within and form a tight joint with the open front end of the ink-reservoir E. This reservoir is shaped as a tube, closed at its rear end, and is of such diameter as to lit easily within the handle. It is of such length that when the plug B, which carries it, is screwed into the handle its closed rear end will meet and bear against the closed rear end of the handle, and thus as the plug is being screwed home in the handle the front 'end of the reservoir will be forced tightly up around and upon the neck a, so as tom e therewith a tight joint secure against lea age. The act of screwing the plug home to its seat in the handle insures this result. Thus after the reservoir is supplied with ink and iitted on the neck a of the plug and the two are applied to the handle the reservoir during the operation of screwing down the plug into place will be forced and jammed tightly upon and around the .neck/ a, so that by the time the plug is home in its seat in the handle the joint between the neck d and the reservoir will be Ypractically sealed against leakage.

The pen is provided with the usual removable cap or covering-sleeve F, which may be fitted upon its front or rear end, as occasion demands. y

Having now describedk my improvement, what I claim herein as new and of my own invention is as follows:

In a fountain-pen the combination'with the handle provided at its rear end with a bearing for the rear end of the reservoir, of the plug B adapted to screw into the front end of the handle, and provided with the neck a, and the reservoir E fitting upon and around the said neck, and'of a length to meet at its rear the bearing in the rear end of the handle, in such manner that it will be forced tightly up and around the neck a when the plug is screwed home to its seat in the handle, as herein shown and described.
