ISAAC R. POTTER, OF DARTMOUTH, MASSACIIUSETTS.`
IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHOES.p
Specification forming part of LettershPatentvNo. 80,213, dated July 21, 1868.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC R. POTTER, of Dartmouth, in the county of Bristol, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new shoes with raised edges and studs, and with movable calks, made in such manner that, when applied, the bearing-edge will be ilush with the wall of the hoof, and in making the calks whole or in parts, with the edge continuous or indented.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the shoe complete. Fig. 2 is a view of the shoe With one calk removed. Fig. 3 is a view of calk removed from shoe.
Fig. l: Al is the shoe 5 BB, calks; Cl CI C1, rib on inner edge of shoe to steady the calks; DVD1 D1 D, screw-bolts for securing calks to shoe.
Fig. k2: A2 is the shoe 5 B2, calk 5 C2 C2 CZC, rib on inner edge of shoe; D2 D2, bolts; E2 E?7 studs, in which the bolts are screwed; a2 a2 a2 a2, nail-holes.
Fig. 3 B3, calk inverted, showing apertures for bolts to pass through, countersunk to ii studs E2 E2, (see Fig. 2 5) D3, bolt.
The Ilan ges of the calks B B, when constructed in separate parts, should be curved at the heel and toe, as shown, or, when continuons, at the heel only.
The shoe being constructed, in the manner herein described, with. raised edges and studs, and the shoe secured to the hoof Ain the usual manner, the calks are secured to the shoe wit bolts, as shown, and will be prevented from slipping by the raised edges and studs, which will also prevent the boltsV from jarring loose. The raised edge may be broken, as shown, or continuous.
In this'invention I do not claim any device previously invented or patented for horseshoe 5 but the bearing-edge will be iiush with the Wall of y the hoof.
4. Carving the calks at the heel and toe, as shown.
ISAAC R. POTTER.
