TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONCERN:
Beit known that I, GEORGE LANE, of Hamilton, in the county of Butler, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boot and Shoe-Heels and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingY drawings forming part of this speeication, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved boot and shoe-heel, and

vSimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. I v
This invention relates to an improved boot and shoe-heel, and it consists in providing the ordinary boot or shoe-heel with a supplementary bottom, composed of India rubber, or other equivalent elastic material, placed in a metallic case, whose flange fits over the heel of the boot or shoe, and secured to the heel by means of screws,
A represents the metallic captted to the face of the hecl'hy means of screws I I, and surrounded by a flange, B, projeetingslightly over the sides ofthe heel.. Within this flange, and upon theplate A, the elastic supplement ary heel E is placed, and secured in position byAmen-ns of a screw passing through its centre, as seen at F, fig. 2.
By this construction of the heel, the elastic plate E is kept securelyin place by .the flange B, and prevented from spreading out of shape when in use. When sufl'iciently worn, it can be easily removed and another plate substituted. Y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The metallic plate A, having flanges B D, in combination with the heel E, and the central screw for attaching said heel to the plate, as herein shown and described.
GEORGE LANE.
