PATENT OFFICE.
ALVIN A. DIETER, OF WINCHESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
DRESS-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 731,759, dated June 23, 1903.
Application filed March 23, 1903 State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dress-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a dress-protector adapted-particularly to shield and protect the front portion of a shirtwaist and adapted to be conveniently applied and removed.
The invention also has for its object to provide a combinationshield or protector, including a shield for the front of the shirtwaist and sleeve or demi-sleeves for the arms, the said parts being connected, so that they may be applied an'd removed together.
The invention consists in the improvements which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a plan View of a dress-protector embodying my invention, the parts appearing as if laid out on a flat surface. Fig. 2 represents a similar view showing the parts relatively adjusted for application to the body of the wearer. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view showing the protector in use. In the drawings, or represents a shield or bib formed to cover thoseportions of the front of a shirt-waist which are the most liable to be soiled when in use, the said shield in the embodiment of my invention here shown conforming at its lower end to the waist-line and extending upwardly therefrom, the shield being cut and fashioned so as to approximately fit the contour of the body ordressfront above the waist.
1) represents a waist-strap which is attached at one endto one of the lower corners of the shield and is adapted to extend around the back of the wearers' Waist, its free end being detachably secured to the opposite lowercorner of the shield by suitable meanss uch as a buttonhole 1), formed in the strap, and a button b attached to the shield a.
ing a shoulder-engaging loop 0, through tonholes formed in the straps 0.
Serial No. 149,046. (No model.)
which the arms of the wearer are inserted, the upper portions of the loop resting upon the shoulders, as shown in Fig. 3. The straps cmay be either permanently or detachably secured to the shield. In this case I have shown the shield provided with buttons (1 d at its inner side, said buttons engaging but- The connection between the parts of the strap that cross each other to form the loops 0 may also be permanent, although in this case I have shown one of the parts of each strap provided with a button e and the other part with a buttonhole 2, said buttons and buttonholes constituting detachable connections between the crossing portions of the straps.
f f represent sleeves or demi-sleeves formed to be worn as indicated in Fig. 3. These sleeves are attached to the end portions of the straps c, opposite the ends attached to the shield 01., the sleeves being here shown as provided with buttons g g, engaging buttonholes formed in the straps o.
The utility of the device as well as the manner of applying and removing it are believed to be sufficiently obvious from the foregoing description in connection with the drawlugs.
The straps c are preferably made of elastic tape or other suitable elastic material; but
this is not essential, and the straps b and 0 may be made either of elastic or of inextensible material at will.
1. A dress-protector comprising a shield or bib having means for attachment at its lower portion to the waist of the wearer, a pair of sleeves, and straps connecting the upper portions of the shield with the sleeves, said straps having attaching devices between thebib and sleeves. s 2. A dress-protector comprising a shieldor bib having means for attach mentat its lower portion toithe waist of the wearer, a pair of sleeves, and straps connecting the upper portions of the shield with the sleeves, said straps having shoulder-engaging loops.
