Description
PATENTED MAR. 10, 1903.
A. R. WELLS.
FLOOR PLATE FOR STEAM AND WATER PIPES.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 6. 1902.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT R. WELLS, OF SOUTHINGTON, CONNECTICUT.
FLCOR-PLATE FOR STEAM AND WATER PIPES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 722,338, dated March 10, 1903. Application filed October 6, 1902- Serial No. l26,031. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT R. WELLS, of Southington, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Floor-Plates for Steam and Water Pipes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure l, a top or plan view of floor-plates constructed in accordance with my invention and in engagement with a pipe; Fig. 2, an edge view, partially in section, of the same; Fig. 3, an under side view of the plates detached and their free ends separated; Fig. 4, a perspective view of one of the springs detached; Fig. 5, a sectional view on the line a b of Fig. 1, showing means for interlocking the ends of the plates; Fig. 6, a side view showing the inner edge of one of the plates with the spring-retaining notch therein.
This invention relates to an improvement in floor-plates for steam and water pipes, and particularly to that class which comprises two semicircular plates adapted to be coupled together and provided with springs to bear upon the pipe to which the plates are applied, the object of the invention being a simple construction and means for applying and securing the springs in position.
As usual in floor-plates of this class, I employ semicircular plates A and B, which may be arranged to be secured together in any desired manner. As herein shown, the plates are connected at one end by a pivot C, the parts being adapted to form a hinged joint. At its opposite end the plate A is formed with a catchlug D, provided on its under face with a beveled projection E, while the plate B is formed at its end with a catch-lug F, corresponding to the lug D and formed with an opening G to receive the projection E, the parts being so arranged that when connected their outer faces will be flush. The two plates are formed with an inner Vertical wall H, and in connection therewith I employ springs I J, duplicates of each other and formed at opposite ends with retainingfingers K. Preferably the lower edges of the walls H will be provided with notches L to receive the fingers K, whereby the springs are interlocked with the plates, the opposite ends of the springs being free to slide over the edges of the walls. These plates are applied in the usual manner around a pipe M, against the face of which the springs bear and not only aid in holding the plates against the pipes, but by tending to force the plates outward the free ends are held in their interlocked position.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The hereindescribed floor-plates for steam and water pipes, consisting of two plates adapted to be interlocked and having inner walls and springs provided at opposite ends with fingers which are folded over the edges of the said walls, substantially as described.
2. The herein-described floor-plates for steam and water pipes, consisting of two semicircular plates adapted to be interlocked and having inner walls, notches in the edges of said walls, and springs provided with fingers which are folded over the edges of said walls, said fingers at one end of the springs being folded into the said notches whereby the springs are held in position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT R. WELLS.
