Description

No. 729,485. PATENTED MAY 26, 1903;
' T. J. BRINER;
FISHING ROD HOLDER.
- APPLIOATIOKTILED MAR. 25, 1903 N0 MODEL.
Tn: ncnms PETERS co. PHOTO-LITHO WASHINGTON. u. c.
UNITED STATES Patented May 26, 1903.
PATENT OFFIGE.
FISHING-ROD HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 729,485, dated May 26, 1903.
Application filed March 25, 1903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. BRINER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Readin g, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fishing-Rod Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in fishing-rod holders; and the object of the invention is to produce a device whereby a fishing-rod maybe adjustably supported in the proper position and at any desired angle.
The device is more fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view partly in section, and Fig. 2 a plan view of my device.
The device consists, broadly, of a barrel or receptacle pivotally secured to a post at its rear end.
1 is the barrel, which is cut away at its top for the greater portion of its length. This barrel is closed at its rear end and has formed thereon a lug 2, and at the front end is formed a recessed boss 3 at the under side.
4 is the fastening-post, adapted to be in serted into the ground. This post is pointed at its lower end 5 and has ears 6 formed at its upperend, between which ears the lug 2 loosely fits. A pin 7 passes through these ears Serial No. 149,469. (No model.)
and lug. The post is formed with a head 8 and has a screw-threaded opening 9 therein, in which is placed a set-screw 10. The lug 2 has a' slight recess 2 formed on its upper edge, and the lower end of the set-screw 10 engages the lug at this point. The post is inserted in the ground and the barrel set at the desired angle by loosening the set-screw sufficiently to permit the lug 2 to move to the desired point. WVh en not in use, the post may be folded against the under side of the barrel, and the end 5 will engage the recessed boss 3. This will make a convenient package for shipment.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A fishing-rod holder comprising a barrel cut away at its top for the greater portion of its length, a recessed boss formed on the under side of the front end, a lug 2 formed on the rear, a recess 2 formed in the upper edge of said lug, a post 4, ears formed near the top E1).
