ELIZA R. THOMAS, OF ST. JOHNS,` MICHIGAN.
PIE-LIFTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,966, dated March 25, 1902. Application filed July 27, 1901. Serial No. 69,963. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern.'
Beitknown that I, ELIZA R. THoMAs, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at and whose post-office address is St. Johns, in the county of Clinton and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pie- Lifters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pie-lifters; and the primary object is to provide a device of the character described which will be inexpensive and capable of easy manipulation.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described with a handle so attached to back or under side of the blade that the same will have a plain smooth surface and not interfere with the free access under the object to be lifted.
To this end the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of partshereinafterfully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of a pie-lifter constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing the blade in longitudinal section on line 2 2, Fig. l. Fig. is a transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by numerals of reference, 1 designates an approximately flat blade, to which is secured the handle 2. This handle is formed of a single strand of thick Wire twisted intermediate its length to form a stiff portion 3. The ends of handle are formed into diverging arms 4 and 5, which are inserted in grooves 7, formed in the back or under side of the blade and secured thereto by rivets 8, which are countersunk in the face of the blades, while the intermediate portion 3 terminates in an end eye or loop 6, by means of which the device may be suspended upon a nail or hook when not in use.
I claim- A pie-lifter comprising a flat blade formed with converging grooves in the back and countersinks in the face thereof, a handle formed with arms fitting in the grooves, With a twisted shank, and with a loop at the outer end of the shank, and rivets whereby the arms are secured to the blade, having their inner ends seated in the countersinks.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
