IMPROVEMENT I N POST-HOLE AUGER.

To ALL WHOM AIT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL McCRAY, of Woodstock, infthe connty of McHenry, in the State of Illinois, have invented an .Improvement on what is called, a. Post-Auger; and I do hereby declaro that the followingis an' exact and full description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. i i

The nature ofmyjmprovement :consists in the manner of attaching the wings to the -crossfplate,`which plate is attached to the standard of the auger, together will. projections, or lips,u :is 4they are clled, which are made upon the forwrd and outer point of the wings. i

To enable others to Ineke and use my improvement, I wll'proceed to describe its construction and operation.

First, then, take a three-fourth (1) rod of iron, four feet in length, et one end make a socket to receive theV handle, point the other end, cut a. screw on the pointed end upward four inches. Second, take a piece 'ofron from six (6) to eight (8)inehes long, three-fourths of an inch thick, and one anderhalf inch wide ;in the centre ineke e holewoi` snliicient size to receive the lower end of the rod; rivet the wings to the plate of iron, inclining or depressing the point or front of each wing.

It is operateol in lthe manner of ,a common auger.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v "The shaping the cross-plate so as to receive the wings in a position nclining about (11) eleven degreesfrom a right'angle to the rod; also the projections upon the forward out-er points of the wings.
