BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 626,529, dated June 6, 1899.
Application filed October 28,1898. Serial No. 694,817. (No model.)
To CLZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. DUGAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Animal Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to animal-brushes in general, and more particularly to that class known as wire brushes, and has for its object to provide a brush which will be more lasting than the ordinary bristle-brush and which at the same time will not injure the flesh of the animal upon which it is used.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure l is a perspective view of a brush made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a modification.
Referring now to the drawings,in the manufacture of a brush in accordance with myinvention I provide the usual back portion a, to which is sewed or attached by other suitable means a band or handle 7). I also provide a face portion a of the same general shape as the back a, having perforations cl in rows or otherwise arranged. Through these perforations (Z are passed wires e, bent into U shape and having their ends turned at right angles to the legs of the U, as shown at f, to prevent their passing entirely through said perforations. The face 0 of the brush is then attached to the back a, by means of stitching or otherwise, in such a manner as to bring the turned ends f of the wires e between the back a and the face 0, thereby holding the wires e in position, as shown in Fig. 2.
My invention may be constructed as shown in section in Fig. 2, or it may be made as shown in Fig. 3, in which latter manner the bristle portion of the brush is constructed of a continuous wire having fingers formed therein, it being bent at right angles at given points and then doubled upon itself an equal distance, when it is again bent to the point at which the next finger is formed.
It will be readily understood that 'I may vary the specific construction and arrangement herein set forth without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- 1. A device of the class described comprising a back portion, a face portion and wires doubled upon themselves and passed through the face portion, each of said wires having its extremities turned at an angle to the doubled portion and lying between said back and face portions.
2. A device of the class described comprising a back portion, a face portion, perforations in said face portion, wires doubled upon themselves, passing through said perforations and having headed ends, said headed ends being secured between said back and face portions.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY A. DUOAT.
