EDWVIN 0. LONG, OF MANCHESTER, NE\V YORK.
GARMENT-,SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,232, dated April 19, 1892.
Application filed August 17, 1891. Serial No. 402,850. (No model.)
'To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN 0. LONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Ontario and State ofNew York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in pin-supporters for securing separate and detachable parts of garments together, or to be used for such other purposes to which they are applicable.
Clasp pins of the common construction when applied as supporters to heavy material or Where the strain is considerable are liable to be bent out of shape, as the strain comes directly on the unsupported arm of the pin, and eventually the pin-arm fails to se curely engage in the catch or keeper for the point.
It is the object of my invention to provide a garment-supporter having means for sustaining and maintaining the parts. in their proper relation and to distribute the strain equally upon each part, possessing the advantage of ready adjustability.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my in vention in the accompanying drawings,wherein- Figure l is a view of myimproved garmentsupporter attached and detached to and from a skirt and waistband. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my device, and Fig. 3 is a sectional View of the same on the line on w.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the form of construction illustrated in the three drawings A and B are plates punched from sheet metal, the plate A being attached to the shank of a clasp-pin O, and
plate B is also provided with a hook c at its top for the reception of the ring a, and also with a spring-tongue 01 whose office it is to prevent the accidental disengagement of the ring a, the whole being punched, as aforesaid, from a metal plate.
While I do not claim the separate parts described and illustrated as new,
I do claim as new and as my invention A garment supporter consisting of two plates A B, punched from sheet metal, the plate A being provided with a clasp-pin C, secured to its top, and the plate Bhavingalike clasppin D secured to the bottom thereof, the two plates connected by a ring a, secured to the bottomof the plate A and detachably engaging the snap-hook on the plate 13, the pin-bar of said clasp-pin D havingasupporting-hook midway of its ends, the whole in combination and for the purpose substantially as arranged and described.
