Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
ALONZO HICKS, OE EACTOEYVILLE, ASSIGNOE To LIONEL JACOBS, OE
NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVED CU RTAIN-FIXTU RE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 45,374, dated December 6, 1864.
tain-nxture, and Fig. 2 is an end view of the Y same.
Similar letters refer to the same parts.
The nature of my Said invention consists in a crank applied to the curtain-roller, combined with pendent rod, by means of which the curtain roller can be rotated to wind up or lower down the curtain.
In the drawings, a' is the cnrtainroller, witha metal end, b, upon which is the crank-pin c, and d is a second metal end, formed with or extending from the crank pin, and containing the axis elof the roller; or said end piece d may Set upon a square at the end ofthe crankpin, and be secured by a screw entering Said crankpin. The axis e of the roller a, and also the axis at the other end of the roller, are to be received into the holes or openings in any usual or convenient brackets. I have shown one ot' said brackets with a Spring, t', to hold the axis into the notch in the bracket. Upon the crankpin c a pendent rod, h, is Iitted, that should pass down through a guide, k, and may have a knob or ornament, g, at the lower end.
By taking the rod h between the thumb and fingers the Same may be moved so as to rotate the roller t by the crank-pin c, and either wind up or lower down the curtain attached to such roller.
The weight ot' the rod It and its knob is to be Suicient to counterbalance the curtain, so that said curtain will not rotate the roller by its weight, and the said rod may be of metal or any Suitable material.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The crank pin and pendent rod, in combination with the curtain-roller, substantially 'as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Signature this 30th day ot' July, 1864.
ALONZO HICKS.
