.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES L. MOORE, of 'Worcester, county of Worcester, in the State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Gulf-Fasteners, of

I which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2, a vertical central longitudinal section; Fig. 3, a top plan View; Fig. 4, the blank from which I preferably form my device; and Fig. 5 illustrates the application of my cuff-fastener to a cuff and garment-sleeve.

Similar letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

Myinvention relates to devices for holding cuffs in place by detachably connecting the cuff to the sleeve.

My object is to improve the construction and to increase the utility, at the same time simplifying the construction.

It consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claims hereunto annexed.

It is constructed as follows:

A, Fig. l, is a blank cut or stamped out of sheet spring metal, and having a tongue, 1, provided with a slot, 2, and also having a hole, 3, in the opposite end of the blank. I then secure the hooked pin l in the hole 3, then bend the tongue 1 over until it lies nearly parallel to the body 5, and the tongue then becomes the spring-arm 6, the slotway 2 being opposite the hooked pin 4 and of sufficient size to permit the free passage of the entire hooked pin therein, and I then bend the other end of the blank over upon itself in such manner as to form the hook or spring-clasp 7.

In Fig. 5, B represents a portion of a cuff, and C a portion of the sleeve of a garment.

My device is operated substantially as follows: I first draw the clasp 7 onto the upper edge of the cuff, where it is securely held by the spring of the clasp. I then slide the cuif into the sleeve, press the arm 6 down, the hooked pin 4 coming up through the slot 2, so that its point engages with the cloth, when by pulling the fastener (and cuff) outward or the sleeve upward the hooked pin firmly catches in the cloth, and then, releasing the arm 6, it springs outward and the edges of the slot 2 bite against the cloth and crimp it against the hook, and this holds the fastener and cuff secure against accidental dislodgment. To release the cuff from the sleeve, the action of the parts is reversed.

Having described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

1. A cuff-fastener consisting of a body, a spring-arm standing over the body and provided with an orifice near its free end, a springclasp formed longitudinally opposite to the spring-arm, said spring-arm and spring-clasp both lying and operating in parallel planes, anda hooked pin secured to the body opposite the orifice in the spring-arm and adapted to wholly enter said orifice when the springarm is compressed toward the body, substantially as described.

2. A cuff-fastener consisting of a body, a spring-arm bent over the body and provided with a slot near the end, and a spring-clasp, all integral with each other, and a retaininghook secured in the body opposite to the slot in the spring-arm, substantially as described.

3. In a cuff-fastener, an extended body, a curved pointed hook secured thereto adjacent to an end, a spring-arm diverging from a face of the body and standing over the same substantiallyparallel, and provided with an aperture adapted to wholly and without contact receive said hook, and a spring-clasp diverging from the opposite face of the body and lying parallel thereto, substantially as described.
