Description

Aug. 26, 1969 E 3,462,780
ALL-PUHPOSE MULTIPLE HAND TOOL I Filed Dec) l8. 1967 INVENTOR.
United States Patent 3,462,780 ALL-PURPOSE MULTIPLE HAND TOOL Frank C. Greco, 1318 Root Road, Lorain, Ohio 44052 Filed Dec. 18, 1967, Ser. No. 691,566 Int. Cl. B261) 11/00; B25d 3/00 Us. or. 7-141 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates generally to hand tools. More specifically it relates to bladed hand tools.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide an all-purpose multiple hand tool which can be readily used for performing a number of various services such as adjusting the position of a door during the hanging up of the door, removing line linoleum, prying out ceramic blocks of floor or wall tile, or which can be used as a chisel to break rocks or other objects,
Another object of the present invention is to provide an all-purpose multiple hand tool which incorporates a flat blade having a handle at one end, and wherein the blade incorporates a rounded head at one end and a pointed nose at the opposite end.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an all-purpose multiple hand tool which although being designed principally for prying purposes, and not intended for use as a cutting tool, may however be provided with a cutting edge being formed on the blade so that the same will have an increased number of uses.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide an all-purpose multiple hand tool which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specifications and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a side elevation view of the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is an end elevation view thereof;
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view showing the present invention used for prying out a floor tile; and
FIGURE 4 shows a perspective View of the present invention used to adjust the position of a door during the hanging up of the door.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents an all-purpose multiple hand tool, according to the present invention, wherein there is a blade member 11 having a handle 12 at itsone end, of tear-drop shape.
The blade member 11 comprises a fiat element made preferably from hardened steel so that the same is relatively strong, the blade member extending the full length of the tool and having a portion 13 that is fitted between handle elements 14 which together form the handle 12. A pair of openings 15 are formed in the portion 13 of the blade member 11, and pair of openings 16 are formed in each of the handle elements 14 in alignment 3,462,780 Patented Aug. 26, 1969 with the openings 15 of the blade member 11, the openlngs 15 and 16 receiving rivets 17 therethrough for purposes of rigidly securing the handle components together.
The opposite end of the blade member 11 comprises a working head 18 which is of generally T-shaped configuration and which includes a longitudinally extending portion 19 having a generally broadened terminal portion 20 which includes a sidewardly extending portion 21 having a rounded edge 22, the head further including at its opposite side a generally pointed nose portion 23 having an edge forming a rounded point 24.
The rounded edge may be used for various purposes selectively, while the relatively pointed nose edge will be more readily adaptable for other chores.
Thus, as is shown in FIGURE 3 of the drawing, the all purposes multiple hand tool 10 is shown prying up the corner 25 of a floor tile 26.
In FIGURE 4 of the drawing, the all purpose multiple hand tool 10 is shown placed beneath the lower edge 27 of a door 28 for adjusting the position thereof during the hanging up operation thereof.
Thus it will be readily seen that the tool may be used for "various purposes comprising principally prying.
While various changes may be made in the detailed construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claim.
I claim:
1. In an all-purpose multiple hand tool, the combination of -a blade member having a working head at one end, and a handle at its opposite end, said working head end being of generally T-shaped configuration, said blade member extending the full length of the tool, the end of said blade member which is opposite to the working head thereof forming a component of said handle, said opposite end of said blade member having a plurality of openings therein, and a pair of one-half round handle elements, one of said elements being placed adjacent each opposite fiat side of said blade member, said handle elements having a pair of openings therethrough in alignment with the openings within said blade member, and said openings of said handle element and said blade member receiving rivets therethrough for securement of said handle elements of said blade member to form said handle, said blade member working head comprising an elongated portion having a sidewardly extending portion upon each side to form said T-shaped configuration, each of said portions having rounded terminal ends, one of said portions having a relatively large semi-circular edge at its end, the other of said portions having a relatively small semi-circular edge formed on a tapering point, said working head being provided having said edges sharpened for cutting purposes, and said handle being of tear-drop shape to provide a comfortable grasp when held in a perso'ns hand and prevent blisters on the hand from long periods of use of said tool.
