Description
March 8, 1966 D. H. WILKINS 3,239,272
SNACK TRAY Filed Jan. 29, 1965 United States Patent 3,239,272 SNACK TRAY Donald H. Wilkins, RR. 2, Box 33, Zionsville, Ind. Filed Jan. 29, 1965, Ser. No. 429,009 2 Claims. (Cl. 297-194) This invention relates to trays and more particularly to a snack and beverage tray for lawn chairs and the like.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a snack tray which will be easily clamped onto lawn chairs and chaise lounges and may be secured on either the left or right side or both sides of the chair.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a snack tray which may be easily removed from the chair when desired with a minimum effort.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a snack tray which will have adjustable brace means which will clampingly engage the seat of the chair at one end and will be secured to the bottom of the tray at the other end thus providing a means for securing the snack tray to any style and size of lawn chair or chaise.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the present invention showing a chair in phantom lines;
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of the tray shown removed in its entirety from FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a cross sectional view taken along the lines 33 of FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 4 is a side view of the adjustable center brace member shown in elevation andremoved from FIGURE 1; and
FIGURE 5 is a side view of a modified center brace shown in elevation and partly broken away.
According to this invention, a snack tray made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a pair of L-shaped configurated brackets 12 which are fixedly secured to the underside of tray 10. A threaded bolt 14 is received through L-shaped bracket 12 and is freely and slidably received through a slot 16 of elongated configuration through adjustable bracket 18 and a wing nut 20 is threadingly received upon bolt 14 and thus provides .a means of securing bracket 18 at various heights with relationship to bracket 12. Bracket 18 is provided with a spring clipped end 22 which clampingly engages the arm 24 of lawn chair 26. An elongated brace 28 having an angular extension 30 is secured to the opposite side of tray 10 anda bolt 32 is received through the other end of brace 28 and is freely and slidably received within a slot 34 of adjustable brace 36. Threaded bolt 32 threadin-gly receives a wing nut 38 thus providing a means for securing adjustable brace 36 to brace 28. A spring clip 40 is fixedly secured to adjustable brace 36 on the other end and provides a means of clam pingly and springingly gripping seat 42 of lawn chair 26.
In use, tray 10 is snapably engaged by means of the spring clips 22 beneath it to either one of the arms 24 of lawn chair 26 and brace 28 and its associated adjustable brace 36 are springingly and clampingly engaged to the edge of seat 42 of chair 26.
3,239,272 Patented Mar. 8, 1966 In the event adjustment is necessary because of the height of arms 24 with relationship to seat 42 of chair 26 bolts 14 and 32 within slots 16 and 34 are adjusted to accommodate brackets 22 and adjustable brace 36 to chair 26 by means of the wing nuts 20 and 38.
In FIGURE 5 (a modified form of brace 44) is an L-shaped tubular construction and is provided with a U- shaped end 46 which transversely receives a threaded bolt 48 and a wing nut 50 thus providing a means for securing end 46 to the seat of a chair. An extension sleeve 52 is slidably received in the other end of brace 44 and is provided with a U-shaped end 54 which transversely receives a threaded bolt 56 and a wing nut 15 thus providing a means for securing brace 44 beneath a tray. The end of brace 44 receiving sleeve 52 is provided with an elongated slot 60 which freely and slidably receives a stud 62 extending from the lower extremity of sleeve 52 and stud 62 threadingly receives a wing nut 64 thus providing adjustment means for height of sleeve 52 which will accommodate various chair designs.
What I now claim is:
1. A snack and beverage tray for lawn chairs and the like comprising a rectangular configurated tray member providing resting means for snacks and beverages, a first pair of L-shaped brackets secured to one side of the underside of said tray member, a second pair of L-shaped adjustable brackets each having an integral spring clip at its one end adjustably secured to said first L-shaped pair of brackets, said first and second pairs of brackets providing support means from one side of said tray member to an arm of said chair, said first pair of L-shaped brackets having a slot therein, saidslot adjustably receiving a threaded bolt, an opening in said second pair of L-shaped brackets to receive said bolts and a wing nut carried on each of said bolts providing clamping means for said brackets, said tray having a diagonal brace secured to the opposite side of the underside thereof and an adjustable extension brace adjustably secured to said diagonal brace providing opposite side support means for said tray member, said extension brace having an S- shaped clip integrally formed at its lowermost end for engagement with a seat edge of said chair said extension brace having an opening near its opposite end, a threaded bolt extending through said opening and through a slot in said diagonal brace and a wing nut carried on said bolt providing clamping means for said diagonal brace and said adjustable extension brace and said first L- shaped brackets secured to said tray being parallel spaced apart beneath said tray.
2. A combination according to claim .1, wherein said second pair of L-shaped brackets is of tubular configuration supporting said first pair of L-shaped brackets therewithin at one end.
