Description

Oct. 9, 1962 P. H. BLACHLY AIR BLOWER ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC SHAVER Filed June 5, 1961 INVENTOR Paul H. Blochly Q 4 BY ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,057,061 AIR BLOWER ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC SHAVER Paul H. Blachly, Fort Worth, Tex. (3250 SW. Underwood Drive, Portland 25, Greg.) Filed June 5, 1961, Ser. No. 114,740 2 Claims. (Cl. 30-34) This invention relates to an air blower attachment for an electric shaver, and it concerns more particularly an attachment for an electric shaver whereby a plurality of tiny jets of compressed air, spaced about the peripheral surface of the shaver housing, forwardly thereof relative to the direction of movement of the shaver upon advancing it toward the user, may be directed against the face or body of the user simultaneously with the shaving operation.
An object of the invention is to provide means for cooling and drying the face or body of the user, in the immediate area thereof which is being acted on by the shaver, simultaneously with the shaving operation, whereby the pilo-erector muscles are contracted and the hair is caused to stand more upright, permitting a closer shave and also contributing to the users comfort and refreshment.
In one form thereof the invention contemplates an attachment for an electric shaver, for the purpose described, which may be conveniently applied to any one of a number of existing electric shavers, of different makes and types, without altering the design of either the shaver or the attachment.
In another form thereof the invention contemplates such an attachment which is specially designed for use with a particular make and type of electric shaver.
In still another form thereof the invention advantageously may be incorporated in an electric shaver of conventional design upon fabrication thereof without substantially altering the design of the shaver.
The invention will be readily understood by referring to the following description and the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing a conventional electric shaver having an air blower attachment embodying the invention applied thereto;
FIG. 2 is a front view of the blower attachment; and
FIG. 3 is a sectional view thereof taken on a median line.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates generally an electric shaver having a front side 2 which, in operation, is engageable with the face or body of the user.
An air blower attachment embodying the invention, indicated generally by the numeral 3, includes an endless flexible tubular member 4, characterized by its resilience and elasticity, formed of molded rubber or like material, having an integral tubular air supply neck 5 in fluid communication with its interior and having a series of small, longitudinally spaced air discharge orifices 6 in one side thereof.
Ihe tubular member 4, because of its elasticity, is conformable to the peripheral surface of the shaver 1. The tubular member 4 encircles the shaver 1 and is positioned adjacent its front side 2, with the orifices 6 facing forwardly.
The tubular member 4 advantageously may be stretched over the housing of the shaver 1, forwardly thereof, whereby it is secured against displacement relative thereto by its inherent elasticity, and may be adjustably positioned relative to the front side 2 of the shaver 1, as desired. Alternatively, the tubular member 4 may be molded on the housing of the shaver upon fabrication of the housing.
-A flexible tubular conduit 7, which is connected at one end to the tubular air supply neck 5, is connected at its opposite end to a source of compressed air (not shown), which may consist of a suitable compressor, or alternatively, a small compressed air supply tank having valve means controlling the supply of compressed air thereto and the discharge of compressed air therefrom.
The flexible tubular conduit 7 advantageously may be attached to the lead wires of the shaver 1, indicated by the numeral 8, by suitable clips (not shown).
The invention may be modified in various ways Without departing from the spirit and scope thereof.
I claim:
1. In combination with an electric shaver having a housing, and having a front side engageable with the skin of the user, the combination of an endless tubular member having an air inlet communicating with a source of compressed air and having a series of longitudinally spaced air discharge orifices of restricted cross sectional area in one side thereof whereby compressed air supplied to the tubular member from said source is discharged therefrom thru said orifices in multiple streams characterized by their high velocity, the tubular member conforming to the peripheral surface of the shaver and encircling the shaver, adjacent its front side, with the air discharge orifices facing forwardly, in opposing relation to the skin of the user, in the operative position of the shaver.
2. The structure of claim 1, the tubular member being flexible and being formed of molded rubber or like material characterized by its resilience and its elasticity, and the tubular member being stretched over the housing, forwardly thereof, whereby it is secured against displacement relative thereto by its inherent elasticity and may be adjustably positioned relative to the front side of the shaver.
