UNITED STATES PATENT OFF CE.
V HENRY WILLSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CARD' OR TICKET HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of'Letters Patent No. 298,048, dated May 6,1884.
Application filed February 11, 1884. (No model.) I
siding at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card or Ticket Holders, of which the following, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective representation of a card-holder embodying my invention, and showing one mode of applying it to use; and Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective representations showing modifications in the form of the head of the holder.
Like letters-0f reference indicate like parts.
The purpose of myinvention is to make an inexpensive device forholdin g cards or tickets intended for the purpose of denoting the price, quality, or character of goods displayed'for sale.
A represents a counter, and B is a roll or bolt of cloth thereon.
G is a card or ticket on which is marked the price of the goods.
D is the card or ticket holder. The holder D consists of a flexible wire made pointed at one end and coiled at the other, as shown. To support the card or ticket by means of the holder D, I push the card edgewise between the coils forming the head of the holder, as indicated in Fig. 1. By this means the card will be firmly held, but may be applied and removed with facility. The holder, with the card in it, I stick into the roll of goods, the pointed end admitting of the holder being supported in that manner.
The cards or tickets may be of any design,
and may have any subject-matter printed or marked upon them. The holder, instead of being stuck directly into the goods, may be point of the holder may be either up or down,
or the holder may be either horizontal or'inclinedin other words, it may be set in any position, and either the upper or the lower edge or either side of the card may be arranged between the coils of the holder.
It will be perceived that the holder D consists of a continuous piece of wire having a pointed end, a, and a coiled head, a, and the coil constituting the head is sufficient to form a somewhat yielding clasp to receive the card.
In Fig. 4 the holder is represented with a head elongated horizontally, and in Fig. 5 the head is represented as elongated vertically, being thus adapted to hold firmly the larger classes of cards.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I As an improvedarticle of manufacture, a card or ticket holder made of a continuous piece of wire, having a coiled head, a, at one end thereof, and made pointed at the other end, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereto afiix my signaturein pres ence of two witnesses.
HENRY WILLSON. Witnesses:
F. F. WARNER, J. B. HALPENNY.
