POCKET COMB Filed Nov. 22, 1949 WWW? Patented May 1, 1951 POGKET COMB Carl E. Sonderegger, Bern, Switzerland Application November 22, 1949, Serial No. 128,696 In Switzerland November 24, 1948 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a pocket comb.
When the hair has been disordered by the wind or when one is not certain that the hair is still tidy, one frequently feels the need, in the street or in the presence of persons, to pass the comb rapidly through the hair, but would prefer this action to pass unobserved.
The object of the present invention is to provide a pocket comb with the aid of which the hair can be unobtrusively combed.
The pocket comb in accordance with the invention is characterized by the fact that its length is approximately that or" the index finger of a hand, that the points of its teeth form a line curved to a slight longitudinal concavity, and that it is provided at one end of its back with a projection having the form of a tongue directed at an acute angle towards the back of the comb and capable of being wedged between two fingers of a hand when the comb is in use. The projection may conveniently exhibit the form of an obliquely positioned tongue so that the fold of skin between the two fingers will fit exactly into the space between the projection and the back of the comb.
In the annexed drawing a typical embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
In this embodiment the comb is approximately 6 to 7 centimetres in length. The line conmeeting the tips I of the prongs or teeth is curved to a slight longitudinal concavity. The tongue or extension 4, arranged at an acute angle with respect to the back of the comb and approximately 1 centimetres in length, forms with the rim or back 2 of the comb a recess 5. The tongue is arranged at the end of the back of the comb.
For use, the comb is so wedged between for instance the index finger and the middle finger of the users hand that the wedge-shaped portion of the hand between the bottoms of the fingers lies exactly in the recess between the back or rim 2 of the body of the comb and the tongue 4 of the comb. Only a very short length of the comb then lies between the fingers, the remaining portion being located below the palm of the hand. The entire palm of the hand and the fingers are slightly curved, and the comb is, when applied to the head, pressed somewhat obliquely towards the thumb and then passed through the hair in the direction of the thumb. During combing the comb seats firmly, owing to the tongue, in the otherwise relaxed hand. The comb remains unnoticed both when the user is raising and lowering the hand and when it is being passed through the hair, but, in spite of its small size, enables the hair to be well combed. The comb may also be produced of a skincoloured material so that even any parts of the comb which when the comb is unskillfully manipulated, may protrude between the fingers, cannot be observed.
Owing to the arrangement of the tongue 4 at the end of the comb, the latter may easily be kept in a comb-case. The case is indicated in the drawing in dot-dash line. ihe comb is inserted from its front end into the case opening, the tongue arranged on the other end of the comb remaining outside the comb-case. The comb is withdrawn from the comb-case by means of the tongue 4.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
A pocket comb, characterized by the fact that it is of approximately the length of the index finger, that the line formed by the points of its teeth is curved to a slight longitudinal concavity, and that it is provided at one end of its back with a projection in the form of a tongue directed at an acute angle towards the back of the comb and capable of being wedged between two fingers of a hand when the comb is in use.
