4 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in razors and more particularly to an improved safety razor.
An important object of `the present invention is to provideya razor which includes a cap plate, a guard plate and a razor blade which may be inserted and removed with respect to the two plates without complete detachment of said` plates.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a razor including a guard plate having a guard bar curved to more deiinitely t the contour of the face and to permit tensioning of the skin of the face as the razor is drawn thereover so that the beard shafts are disposed in a position more readily engageable by the blade.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention shall become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view of the complete razor.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary Vertical sectional view through the razor.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken online 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the improved guard plate.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the cap plate as shown inverted.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the improved blade.
Referring to the drawing wherein the same numerals designate th'e same parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 denotes an elongated knurled handle having a threaded recess 6 at one end thereof for receiving the threaded stud I projecting from a cap plate 8. Y
The cap plate 8, in addition to the stud 'I has a pair of aligned ribs 9, 9 which fit in the depression I of a guard plate II, the guard plate II having an Opening I2 to accommodate the threaded cap plate stud l and also openings I3 for accommodating certain types of cap plates which have smooth interlocking studs (not shown).
The guard plate II is further formed at one side and at the ends of this side with outwardly and down turned fingers I4, I4 terminating in close spaced relation with respect te the ends of a curved guard bar I which is connected at its mid-point by narrow neck I6 to the intermediate portion of the adjacent longitudinal edge of the guard plate II. As can be seen in Figure 4, there is a substantial space between the guard plate bar 5 and the adjacent edge of the guard plate and this is so that any accumulation from sh'aving can easily be displaced.
Further, it will be noted that the guard bar I5 is curved and this is so that in riding over the skin, this bar will tension the skin in such a manner as te cause the beard shafts to stand out. I5 are spaced from the ngers I4 allows for a ready egress of shaving residue.
The blade is of novel construction, the same consisting of a body portion II having a notch I8 at the mid-point of one longitudinal edge while the other longitudinal edge is sharpened to provide a cutting edge I9. The opposite ends of the blade are provided with outstanding finger engageable lugs 20, to the end that these lugs 20 protrude outwardly beyond the end portions of the cap plate 8 and the guard plate I I.
It can now be seen, that by'unscrewing the handle several turns, the blade I'I is freed so that it can be `gripped by the lugs 20 and removed from between the cap plate 8 and the guard plate Il, without displacing these plates with respect to each other. A new blade can be inserted in the same way without disconnecting the plates 8, I I.
While the foregoing description sets forth the invention in specic terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention what is claimed asnew is:
1. A razor comprising a handle, a guard plate, a cap plate having a threaded member, said guard plate having an opening for receiving the threaded member, said handle having a threaded recess for receiving the threaded member and a blade having a cutting edge, said blade being insertible into position between the plates and arranged to be freed of said threaded member so that it can be retracted from between the plates by a slight spacing thereof, and a curved guard bar, said bar being connected at its intermediate portion to said guard plate.
2. A razor comprising a handle, a guard plate, a cap plate having a threaded member, said guard plate having an opening for receiving the threaded member, said handle havinga threaded recess for receiving the threaded member and a blade having a cutting edge, said blade being insertible. into position between the plates and arranged to be freed of said threaded member The fact that the ends of the guard bar so that it can be retracted from between the plates by a slight spacing thereof, and a curved guard bar, said bar being connected at its intermediate portion to said guard plate, and guard fingers projecting from the guard plate and terminating in spaced juxtaposition with' respect to the ends of the guard bar.
3. A razor comprising a cap plate, a guard plate having an opening, a handle, said cap plate being provided with a threaded member: disposed through the guard plate into the handle, said guard plate being provided with an inwardly curved guard bar and a neck member connected to the intermediate portion of the bar to the guard plate.
4. A razor comprising a cap plate, a guard plate having an opening, a h'andle, said cap plate being provided with a threaded member disposed through the guard plate into the handle, said guard plate being provided with an inwardly curved guard bar and a neck member connected to the intermediate portion of the bar .to the guard', plate, and guard fingers at the ends of the guard bar.
