a. corporation of New York Application August 12, 1936, Serial No. 95,595
12. Claims. (01. 40-140) readilyv manufactured partswhich may be made lo. .of stamped material, wherebythe cost of manufacture is reduced.
'It is an additional object of my invention to provide a construction which facilitates and simplifiesthe locking of selected ornaments such I 5. as monogram letters to a special base, whereby an inexperienced user can mount the ornaments in place without tools.
With' the above and other objects and advantageous features in view, my invention consists of'ainovel arrangement of parts more, fully disclosed inthe detailed description following, in conjunction withv the accompanying drawing, andjmore specifically defined in the claims appendedthereto. 1
21-. I the drawing. a
Fig. 1 is'a perspective view showing the invention applied toatie holder;
Fig. 2 is aperspective view of the ornament base therefor, showing the front; 7
30. 3 is a similar view showing theback;
Figs. 4 and 5 are perspective views of anornament letter, showing the front and back;
6 is an enlarged section on the line 6---6 ofFig.,1;". I 351 r Fig, '7, is a plan view of the invention as applied to. a hookless fastener slide;
Fig. 8 is an enlarged section on the line 8-8 of Fig. ,7; Y m
9 is a planview of a cuff button of the sew-on-type, shaped to'receivea monogram let- "tor;
10 is, a plan view showing the invention applied to a belt buckle; and I Fig. '11 is an enlarged section on the line lI-l I 55 Thus,referring to Figs. 1 to 5, the .tie holder I JFUNIITED'STATESA PATENT OFFICE,
I0 includes a shirt hem engaging member ll of standard type, having a front element l2 and a rear element l3 resiliently urged towards the front element, an ornamental flexible member l4 being secured to the ends of the front element 5,-- for receiving the tie therebetween, an ornament l5 being mounted as part of the flexible member. The ornament l5 includes a base l6 formed of stamped sheet metal, having vertical spacing bars l1, defining panels l8 and suspension lugs- 0;
I9 having openings for receiving the contiguous ends of the flexible member M. The edges of the panels have bevelled front portions 2| and recessed rear portions 22.
The invention may be applied to other jewelry items, such as a hookless fastener pull 21, which has spaced slots 28 to provide panels 29, the edges of these panels having bevelled front portions 30. 30 and recessed rear portions 3|. Initial members such as indicated at 23 may be readily snapped over the panels. A cuff button 32, made of pearl, bone, bakelite, or other material, see
Fig. 9, may be out or shaped to provide a panel 3;,
33, having edges formed as hereinbefore described, to similarly receive a snap-over initial member.
Although it is preferred to utilize bases with panels havingedges provided with bevelled front 0,
portions and recessed rear portions, this construction is not suitable for thin stock bases, such as is for example used for buckles. An alternative construction-suitable for thinner materials comprises an inclined or roll edge which is shaped 45,.
to provide a recess equivalent. Thus, referring to Figs. -10 and ll the buckle 34 is. slotted as at 35 to provide a panel 36, the edges 31 of the panel being rolled as indicated at 38, and displaced the thickness of the ornament member rear portion 26, so as to function as a recess,
the rolled portion serving as a guide for the member edges in the same manner as hereinbefore described for'the bevelled front portion.
While I have described different applications of my invention, and difierent kinds of material for the parts, such applications and materials are merely illustrative, and changes in the size of the parts, the materials, the shape and form of the edges of the bases and the ornament members, may be made to suit different article designs without departing from the spirit and the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, an ornament base having a panel, the ends of said panel being rearwardly inclined in front, and an ornament member having spring edges, said edges having depending rear portions which extend towards each other and are spaced from the body thereof and are spaced from each other a distance less than the width of the panel, said'depending rear portions being snapped over the ends of the panel.
2. In combination, an ornament base having a panel, the ends of said panel being rearwardly inclined in front and recessed at the rear, and an ornament member having spring edges, said edges having depending rear portions which extend toward each other and are spaced from the body thereof and are spaced from each other a distance less than the width of the panel, said depending rear portions being snapped over the ends of the panel and seated in the rear recesses thereof.
3. In combination, an ornament base having a panel, one end of said panel being rearwardly inclined in front, and an ornament member having a spring edge, said edge being spaced from the body thereof and having a rear portion extending towards the other edge, said other edge and the other panel end having interengaging parts, said ornament member and said panel being ofsubstantially the same height, said rear portion being snapped over the inclined panel end.
4. In combination, an ornament base. having a panel, one end of said panel being rearwardly inclined in front and recessed at the rear, and an ornament member having a'spring edge, said edge being spaced from the body thereof and having a rear portion extending towards the other edge, said other edge and the other panel end having interengaging parts, said ornament member and said panel being of substantially the same height, said rear portion being snapped over the inclined panel end and seated in the rear recess thereof.
5. In combination, an ornament base having spaced slots and a panel therebetween, the ends of said panel being rearwardly inclined infront, and an ornament member having spring edges, said edges having depending rear portions/which extend toward each other and are spaced'from the body thereof and are spaced from each other a distance less than the width of the panel, said depending rear portions being snapped over the ends of the panel.
6. In combination, an ornament base having spaced slots and a panel therebetween, the ends of said panel being rearwardly inclined in front and recessed at the rear, and an ornament member having spring edges, said edges having depending rear portions which extend toward each other and are spaced from the body thereof and are spaced from each other a distance less than the width of the panel, said depending rear portions being snapped over the ends of the panel and seated in the rear recesses thereof.
