While I have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for carrying my invention into eflect, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 7
I have shown the cut lines l8 and I9 (Figs. 1 and 10) as the preferred form of cuts to be provided in the blank, but the cuts may be varied without departing from my invention. Said cuts may be in the form of one straight line extending from each end of the end wall sections or the cuts may be curved or irregular in shape, provided they extend from the ends of the end wall sections and intersect the scored lines extending from the adjacent corner of the bottom section to the corresponding outside corner of'the blank at each of the four corners.
The score lines I I, H and ii are shown as being in one straight line (Figs. 1 and 10) as are score lines 13 and II, also score lines it and are shown as one straight line. These score lines are illustrated in this way for simplicity, but in practice it may be desirable, when fairly thick material is used, to have some of the lines slightly out of line with each other, or at a slight angle with each other, to compensate for the thickness of the material from which the box blank is made in order to permit folding the walls and corners of the box to flat condition and so that the box may be set up without binding or cramping.
Instead of applying adhesive to areas 2| (Fig. 3), 22 (Fig. 5), 23 (Fig. 12) and 24 (Fig. 14), the adhesive may be applied directly to the corner segments 8 and flap extensions I, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I have shown as a preferred embodiment of my invention, that end wall corner segments I should be secured to the end walls 4 and I at areas 2| (Fig. 3), but it is not necessary that said corner segments 8 be so secured, because the box will be effective for many uses without being fastened to the inside of the end walls.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A folding box comprising a bottom, upright front and rear walls and end walls, the said end walls being provided at each end thereof with a flap, and each flap having crease-hinged thereto a flap extension secured to the outside surface of the corresponding front or rear wall; a bellows fold element at each corner of the box being integral with a portion of the end edge of the end wall and integral'with the corresponding end edge of the front or rear wall, one surface of said bellows fold element being secured to the inside surface of the end wall, substantially as described.
2. A folding box comprising a bottom, upright front and rear walls and end walls, the said end walls being provided at each end thereof with a flap, and each flap having crease-hinged thereto a flap extension secured to the inside surface of the corresponding front or rear wall; a bellows fold element at each corner of the box being integral with a portion of the end edge of the end wall and integral with the corresponding end edge of the front or rear wall, one surface of said bellows fold element being secured to the outside surface of the end wall, substantially as described.
3. A folding box comprising a bottom, upright front and rear walls and end walls, the said end walls being provided at each end thereof with a flap, and each flap having crease-hinged thereto a flap extension secured to the corresponding front or rear wall; a bellows fold element at each comer of the box being integral with a portion of the end edge of the end wall and integral with the corresponding end edge of the front or rear wall, one surface of each bellows fold element being secured to thesurface of the corresponding end wall; the said flap extension and the bellows fold element at each corner of the box being secured, one to an ontside surface of the box and the other to an inside surface of the box.
