Abstract
A jewelry and fashion apparatus having a top member and a bottom member, the members are movably and pivotally attached to one another and contain a resilient material, a closing mechanism designed to secure the first and second members to one another, and the resilient material is designed to hold a portion of an article.
Description
- This application claims priority from and is based on a provisional patent application entitled “Fashion Accessory Module” with U.S. Ser. No. 62/883,703 filed on Aug. 7, 2019.
- The field of the invention and its embodiments relate to a jewelry and fashion apparatus that may be utilized with varying types of fashion items including but not limited to jewelry, to adjust an items length, keep an item in a desired position, and to add style with interchangeable decorative embellishments.
- For many, it is desirable to create a number of fashionable looks without breaking the bank. Buying jewelry and other fashion accessories is inherently expensive and not many can afford to have multiple pieces. Further, as people change, their physical changes can influence how a particular piece of jewelry fits on a wrist, neck, etc.
- Many have attempted to solve such issues. In one example, pegs or posts are used in conjunction with the clasp to aid a user in shortening or otherwise modifying a length of a chain of a necklace or bracelet. However, such implementations are not desirable as they can be difficult to work with and may not fit a particular chain thus requiring other mechanisms to accommodate a particular size.
- Additionally, different outfits or necklines (dresses, blouses, etc.) require different jewelry to complete the ensemble as not all jewelry will match a given outfit or neckline. This requires one to have many pieces of jewelry to match a given outfit. Having jewelry with interchangeable pieces (embellishments) or changeable lengths can remove the need to have multiple static pieces of jewelry. The interchangeable embellishments allow a user to change or add to the look and style of an existing piece of jewelry or fashion. Further, the user or wearer is empowered to create their own custom look rather than having such a piece custom made by a jeweler. Such a customization process is conventionally prohibitively expensive. The jewelry and fashion apparatus is designed to be used with multiple fashion and jewelry items and by its design has a universal ability to fit multi items that a user already owns, and it does so without requiring any adapters or adjustments to the apparatus.
- The present invention and its embodiments solve the aforementioned problems and other issues relating to jewelry and fashion accessories, in an efficient and easy to use manner.
- The present invention and its embodiments relate generally to a removable and/or interchangeable fashion and jewelry apparatus that can be used to create a custom look and also modify a length of a piece of jewelry (e.g. bracelet or necklace) as desired.
- The jewelry and fashion apparatus subject to the present application accomplishes the above without the need for pegs, posts, rods, threads, etc. to engage a fashion item. This is desirable as such structures have a fixed shape that cannot conform to all chain types. Further, these structures can be prone to breakage rendering them useless for their intended purpose. These structures can also scratch or damage the article of fashion or jewelry they are being used to modify. Additionally, the jewelry and fashion apparatus may have a unique shape or appearance thereby allowing the user to create a custom look for an existing piece of jewelry or other fashion item.
- In practice, a user can “open” the jewelry and fashion apparatus via the closure mechanism or hinge mechanism thereby allowing the two sections or halves to be moved in opposing directions. This exposes the interior of the fashion accessory module. The interior of the two sections is fitted with a gel or a foam or other retainment material(s) that will configure to conform to and provide a friction fit to any fashion or jewelry item that comes into contact with the retainment material. In addition, the gel or foam material will not scratch, damage or ruin the fashion or jewelry items it contacts.
- When the user closes the jewelry and fashion apparatus, after proper positioning of the item or piece, the channels in the sections of the apparatus allow the chain or corresponding structure to pass therethrough while the foam or gel retains a position of the jewelry and fashion apparatus on the chain. When not desired to be used, a user can simply remove the jewelry and fashion apparatus from the fashion or jewelry item in question.

- The specific example below will enable the invention to be better understood. However, they are given merely by way of guidance and do not imply any limitation.
- Referring now to
FIGS. 1-8 , the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 generally comprises afirst section 102 having at least onefirst channel 106 disposed therethrough, asecond section 104 having at least onesecond channel 112 disposed therethrough, aclosure mechanism 110 configured to secure a position of thefirst section 102 in relation to thesecond section 104, ahinge mechanism 108, and aretainment material 114 coupled to an inner surface 5 of at least one of thefirst section 102 and thesecond section 104. - The jewelry and
fashion apparatus 100 may generally be made from any material including precious metals, metals, polymers, composites, glass, woods, stone, and the like or some combination thereof. In some embodiments, it is desirable to have the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 to have amagnet 120 encapsulated in either of thefirst section 102 or thesecond section 104 or a combination thereof. The presence of such amagnet 120 allows for various magnetic adornments (decorative embellishments) 122 (seeFIG. 9 ) to be presented upon an outer surface of thefirst section 102 and/or thesecond section 104. Thedecorative embellishments 122 may be made of various materials, colors, patterns, pictures, letters, stones, gems, pearls, finishes, and combinations thereof. Thedecorative embellishments 122 will be made that they are universally useable for different jewelry and fashion apparati. In other embodiments, thefirst section 102 and/or thesecond section 104 itself is magnetic (or a portion thereof) thereby allowing for the magnetic adherence of one or more magnetic adornments. - The
first section 102 is preferably hingably coupled to thesecond section 104. This allows for rotation or pivoting of thefirst section 102 relative to thesecond section 104. In some embodiments, free movement of the sections is allowed by thehinge mechanism 108. In other embodiments, only thefirst section 102 or thesecond section 104 is allowed to freely rotate while the other section remains stationary. - In an embodiment, the
hinge mechanism 108 is a spring-based hinge, that comprises at least a first position and the second position. The first position of the spring-based hinge is when thehinge mechanism 108 is in an “open” position and the spring is stretched providing the spring with potential energy. The second position of the spring-based hinge is when thehinge mechanism 108 is in a “closed” position and the spring is not stretched. The potential energy is converted to kinetic energy at a point between the first position and the second position causing thefirst section 102 and thesecond section 104 to quickly snap shut. The spring utilized by the hinge is selected to prevent movement of thefirst section 102 and thesecond section 104 when in this “closed” position. The hinge 5mechanism 108 may be positioned on an exterior or interior surface of the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100. - On an opposing side, from the
hinge mechanism 108, of thefirst section 102 and thesecond section 104 there may be aclosure mechanism 110. The combination of thehinge mechanism 108 and theclosure mechanism 110 allows for a “clamshell” like movement between the two section and further allows (via the closure mechanism 110) for a position of the two sections to be selectively fixed. However, in at least one embodiment, there is only one of thehinge mechanism 108 and theclosure mechanism 110, and in some embodiments thehinge mechanism 108 essentially functions as the closure mechanism. - In an embodiment, the
closure mechanism 110 is a magnet. In such an embodiment, a magnet of a first polarity is disposed on thefirst section 102 and a magnet of an opposing polarity is disposed on thesecond section 104. In yet other embodiments, theclosure mechanism 110 may be a traditional clasp, lock, pin, etc. that allows for the two sections to be selectively joined until otherwise desired. The jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 further has at least onefirst channel 106 and at least onesecond channel 112. The channels are cut outs in the side wall of thefirst section 102 and thesecond section 104 respectively. The channels may be of any shape and/or size and are generally configured to accommodate a chain 200 (seeFIGS. 9A-B ) of a piece of jewelry or other fashion item therethrough. The channels may be in any orientation around the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 and present in any number. The key to thefirst channel 106 and thesecond channel 112 is that there is a corresponding portion of each channel formed from thefirst section 102 and the second 104. Further, when thefirst section 102 and thesecond section 104 are brought together the channel portions of each section align thereby forming each of thefirst channel 106 and thesecond channel 112. However, in some embodiments, thefirst channel 106 and thesecond channel 112 may be offset from one another. This configuration of the channels serves to further aid the user in creating a unique look. - Disposed within the jewelry and
fashion apparatus 100 is aretainment material 114. Theretainment material 114 is sized and configured to “grasp” a chain or other material as it is placed therethrough. Theretainment material 114 may be a gel, foam, elastomer or other rubber or polymer material or cotton or a combination thereof. In yet other embodiments, materials encompassing the retainment material may include any deformable material including but not limited to woven or unwoven fabric, cloth, terrycloth, woven or woven fibers of wool, flax, cotton, and/or yarn, mineral textiles, denim, elastomeric fibers/fabrics, and synthetic textiles including but not limited to nylon, polyester, and/or acrylic, or any combinations thereof. - In another embodiment the
retainment material 114 is a gel or a foam. The gel may be encapsulated in a protective outer layer to prevent drying of the gel, to prevent contact of the gel with the fashion item, and to provide a surface upon which the fashion item can rest when inserted into the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100. Virtually any type of gel is acceptable. The foam may be a polymer foam and more specifically a polyurethane foam (e.g. memory foam). The foam may be secured in the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 by mechanical or chemical means including an adhesive. - In a further embodiment, the
retainment material 114 may have at least one groove or texture traversing a length of theretainment material 114. The groove or texture is configured to receive the fashion item, such as a chain, and to secure a position of the fashion item once thefashion accessory module 100 has been secured via theclosure mechanism 110. The groove or texture is preferably aligned with thefirst channel 106 and thesecond channel 112. The 5 groove or texture may be permanent or may be induced by pressure exerted on theretainment material 114 by the fashion item. - Referring now to
FIG. 9 , a plurality of jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 are disposed along a fashion item such as achain 200. The jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 are disposed intermittently along the length of thechain 200. The jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 may be positioned at virtually any place along the length of thechain 200 to create a desired look. In order to secure a jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 to thechain 200, a user simply opens thefashion accessory module 100 and places thechain 200 therethrough aligning thechain 200 with thefirst channel 106 and thesecond channel 112. When the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 is closed, theretainment material 114 secures a position of the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 along the length of thechain 200. - Referring now to
FIGS. 10A-B , an alternative use of the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 is used. Here, the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 not only adds a custom look to a fashion item (e.g. a chain or necklace) but is also used to modify a length of the fashion item. As shown inFIG. 10A , thechain 200 is folded over in a way that thechain 200 passes through the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 twice. The point at which thechain 200 is folded over and the position of the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 in relation to this fold and, in this example, a neck of a user (as shown inFIG. 10B ) allows thechain 200 to be shortened. This is desirable for a number of reasons such as creating a custom look or shortening achain 200 to match a cut on a particular blouse, dress, etc. - The positioning of the jewelry and
fashion apparatus 100 as shown inFIGS. 9 and 10A -B are not limited to such exemplary position and it is under the purview of this present application that virtually any positioning and use of the jewelry andfashion apparatus 100 may occur with another fashion item. - Although this invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is to be understood that the present disclosure has been made only by way of illustration and that numerous changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and the scope of the invention.
