SEATTLE, WASHINGTON SHAVING DEVICE-- Application tiled October 7, v19229. Serial No. 397,836.
This invention relates to an improvement in shaving devices, and has for an object, generally stated, the provision of novel apparatus of this character effectively adapted la for more advantageous and efficient application to the demands of an operator than similar devices heretofore conceived.
A more specific object of the invention is the provision of ya device of this character p m peculiarly adapted to increase the cutting facilities from the respective blade insertions. A further objectA of the invention is the provision of novel means peculiarly adapted to combine, in a compact assembly with the improved blade structure, a soap cartridge effectively (zo-operative to a lather forming brush.
Further objects and advantages will become apparent in the following description, the invention consisting in the novel construction, adaptation and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of apparatus representative vof the now preferred embodiment of my invention; F 2 is a longitudinal vertical section thereo Fig. 3 isda plan view of the razor head; Fig. 4 is a plan view of the improved blade used therewith; and Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse section, substantially on lines 5-5 rof Fig. 2, illustrative of the soap discharging piston and barrel housing therefor.
Reference being had to the drawings, the numeral 6 represents generally, the assembly of mynovel shaving device structure, comprising' the co-operatively arranged demountable head 7 and a barrel handle 8 therefor.
While said head, as illustrated, utilizes a conventional manner of crimping an interposed plane faced pliable metallic blade 9 b e-fy tween a cap piece 10 and a backin plate-11,1
the structural configuration of sai co-operative parts is a ICOw-eptionl p To whichvend,tl1e'aforesaid cap pieceand plate, 10,11, respectively, are suitably-caseV to a substantially 'cross-shaped, generally designated by the word Maltese, convex con. formation. Projecting studs 12, integrall .p arranged to the cap, are engaged throng part ofthe present inventiveil companion annulets of the blade 9 and backing plate 11, thel'latter being compressed, as I by a tubular axially'disposed cap-piece stem 13 engaging internal screw threads 14 of the shank 15 of barrel 8, to engage said plate 55 against a shoulder 16 of the shank.
The assembled head presents the cutting edges 2() of the blade substantially intermediate the beveled end extremities21 of respective cap wings 22 andthe serrated end guard-forming teeth 23 of the backing plate.
The annulets of said blade (Fig. 4) desirably form an enlarged eye 17, struck from the inner extremities of the radially disposed outwardly divergin channels 18, in a manner to facilitate re y pliability of the blade on the plane of a line conceived through the v axis of co-operative throat forming annulets of the respective blade wings 19.
I provide, in centrical disposition to the surface 24'of the cap piece, a rubber brush 25, the body of which is suitably retained by inwardly diverging side walls of a recess 27 of said cap. In Aaligned dis osition to the bore of the cap stem 13, said rushprovides a soap discharge 28, communicatlvely ar-v ranged, through the barrel shank 15, to the chamber 30 of the barrel. 5 Diametricallyoppositely disposed rslots 31 in said chamber engage, for relative movement lon itudinally thereof, ears 32 of a piston mem r 33, screw threads centrically of which are engageable to actuate the same through the medium lof a rotatable screwv p. threadedl rod 34. In operation, subsequent to insertlon of a soap cartridge by removing the piston 33 and crown 38, the finger piece and piston engaging rod 34 are revolved to compress the pis- 100 ton to force soap through the bore of the cap piece stem 13 to discharge through the bristles 40 of the brush 25. A suitable lather is Worked up on the face of an operator by manipulation of the brush bristles. The convex conformation of the head piece prevents interference from the brush bristles while shaving.
While I have described and illustrated the invention as comprising the preferable plane faced pliable blade, it is evident that a convex blade might be utilized, crimping of the blade into an isomorphic convex disposition to the head structure proper, being eliminated. Further structural modifications are believed evident, and I do not wish to con fine myself to the specific disclosure, except as hereinafter limited by the scope of-the appended claims.
lVhat I claim, is
l. In combination with a safety razor having a head forming a convex configuration in horizontal and transverse verticalsection with a cutting edge adjacent the extremity of each of said head forming arcs, of a flexible brush carried by said head, a soap containing handle detachably engageable to said head, and means to discharge the soap from said `handle to the brush.
2. The combinationl with a safety razor providing a head adapted to engage a razor blade having multiple cutting edges, said head being formed in a convex configuration wherein the cutting edges of the blade lie adjacent the respective arc terminals, of a flexible brush carried by said head and disposed substantially centrically of the head arc, a hollow handle for said head, means to insert a soap cartridge Within said handle, and means to discharge the soap from said handle to the brush.

The combinationkwith a safety raz'or havinga head adapted to engage a razor blade, said head being formed in a convex' configuration and wherein the cutting edge of the bladel lies adjacent a terminal of said head are, of a flexible brush carricdby said head, a soap containing handle for said head, and means to discharge the soap from said handle to the brush.
4. The combination in a shaving device having a cutting head formed of a convex cross-shaped cap piece providing a centrically disposed screw-threaded hollow stem, a barrel handle having a tubular shank engageable with said stem, a convex crossshaped backing plate for said cap piece, and a plane faced resilient blade arranged for interposition between said cap 'piece and plate for clamping engagement therebetween, said cap piece presenting studs projecting radially from the center of the same about said stem, the blade and backing plate providing annulets aligned with said studs for engage ment thereover, of a brush disposed centrically of the arcuate peripheries of said convex cap piece, a soap cartridge carried within said barrel handle, and means to discharge soap from said cartridge to the brush.
5. The combination in a shaving device having a head comprising a guard and a cap piece, said head being adapted to detachably support a cutting blade between said guard and the cap piece, of flexible lathering means carried by said cap piece, a soap-containing handle for said head, and .means to discharge the soap from said handle to the lathering means.
6. The combination with the cut-ting ,head of a safety-type shaving device, said head comprising a guard and a cap piece, said guard and cap piece being adapted to support a cutting blade therebetween, of ilexible lathering means carried by said cap piece for lathering the face.
7. The combination in a shaving device having a head comprising a guard and a cap piece, said head being adapted to detachably support a cutting blade between said guard and the cap piece, of a brush composed of a plurality of flexible bristles carried by said cap piece for lathering the face.
