rlhis invention relates to safety razors ot the general type in which the edge of the guard is at an angle to the edge of the blade with the intention of obtaining an oblique cutting action, and particularly to safety razors of this general type in which the edge of the guard is at right angles to the axis of the handle so that the oblique cutting action is obtained when the razor is drawn over the E@ tace in the normal way.
A. safety razor according to this invention has a guard plate or table to which the blade is clamped and this guard plate or table is so shaped and so inclined to the axis of the M5 handle that the edge of the guard is at right angles to that axis and the cutting edge of the blade inclined relatively to the guard edge.
The invention is more particularly concerned with safety razors of the well known type in which a thin blade with two cutting edges is clamped between a guard plate or table and a clamping plate, and the following description of an improved razor of that kind is given by way of example.
'lhe guard plategor table is made with two slots parallel to each other and disposed so that when the blade is clamped down upon the plate its cutting edges are parallel with the slots and positioned relatively thereto so 3@ that soap and hair may pass through the slots. The blade-supporting portion of the guard plate, instead of being-at right angles to the axis oi the handle as is usually the case, is inclined thereto, but the guard edges are 5 not parallel with the slots but are at right angles to the axis of the handle. v
Thus, in use when the guard edge rests on the face the natural movement yolf pulling the handle in the direction of its length must m result in the desired oblique cutting action.
The invention may be carried out in various ways but it is shown as applied to the known exible double-edged blade type of razor in the accompanying drawings, in
which Figure l is an elevation showing the parts assembled,
Figure 2 is a sectional elevation showing o the handle, guard and clamping member separated ready :for assembly,

rl"he safety razor illustrated is of the well known type comprising a detachable handle A, a curved guard plate or table B, and a Aclamping plate C furnished with a screwthreaded stud C1 to engage the internally screwthreaded socket A1 in the handle. The guard plate is provided with openings B1 to receive not only the screwthreaded stud C1 but projections C2 which engage correspond ing openings @l in the blade D and position this upon the guard plate.
According to the present invention the guard plate is provided with two slots E which are parallel to each other and soarranged that when the blade D is clamped down upon the plate B, its cutting edges are parallel with the slots E and so positioned relatively thereto that soap and hair can pass through the slots.
rlhe niain portion. of the guard plate B, instead ot being at right angles to the axis of the handle as is usually the case, is inclined as clearly shown in Figure 2, but the guard edges El are not parallel with the slots but are at right angles to the axis of the handle i. e., the guard plate, though furnished with parallel slots, has inclined or taper edges El most clearly seen in Figure 3. The exposed portions of the guard are preferably provided with grooves or serrations E2 to ensure proper shaving conditions.
Adjacent to the corners on the slots E, i. e. adjacent to the corners of the blade, small projections or raised shoulders E8 are provided to prevent any risk of the corners of the blade scratching or cutting the iace and there may also in the surface of the guard plate adjacent to the cutting edge. The ends of the clamping plate are also provided for the same purpose with extension lugs or fingers C3 as shown in Figures l and 2 which overlap the corners of the blade when it is clamped between the' plate and the table in the usual way.
` In assembling the parts the screwthreaded shank G1 and the studs C2 be a slight step or depression on the clamping "55. edge is inclined to the longitudinal axis of plate C are passed through apertures in the blade D and in the guard plate B, whereupon the end of the screwthreaded shank is engaged by the tapped hole A:L in the upper endy of the handle. As clearly shown in Figure 2 the screwthreaded shank is loosely mounted on the clamping plate so that its axis is not at a fixed angle rela-tively to the plate. The under surface of the guard plate is recessed,
. as clearly shown in Figure 2, to form a seat- Vzors of the kind in which a hollow cylindrical member, forming the main part of the handle, is integral with the guard plate and furnished with a removable internally screwthreaded portion adapted to engage a screwthreaded pin on the clamping plate.
It will be appreciated that the screwthreaded shank may be mounted on a pin 0r vpivot upon the plate or may be arranged so as to rock within an opening or socket thereon without being detachable therefrom, the particular mounting adopted being capable of pariation without departing from the invenion.
It is however to be understood that the invention is not necessarily restricted to a razor Vof the particular type illustrated or even to a double-edged razor, although this arrangement is preferable, as with such a construction either cutting edge will give an oblique cut whichever way the razor is held as clearly illustrated in Figure 3 which shows the converging guard edges in plan.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A holder for a safety razor blade including in combination a guard plate, means cooperating with the guard plate to hold a blade in position thereon, a guard edge on said guard plate the guard being shaped so that the guard edge is inclined to the longitudinal axis of the plate and also to the main portion of the plate, a handle and means for fixing said handle to the guard plate so that the main portion oi' the guard plate is inclined to the axis of the handle and the guard edge is at right angles to the axis of the handle.
2. A holder for a safety razor including in combination a guard plate, means cooperating with the guard plate to hold a blade in position thereon, a guard edge on said guard plate to guard being shaped so that the guard the plate and also to the main portion of the plate, a slot in the guard plate between the main portion of said guard plate and said guard edge and parallel to the longitudinal axis of saidguard plate, a handle, and means for fixing the said handle to said guard plate so that the main portion ofthe guard plate is inclined to the axis of the handle and the guard edge is at right angles to the axis of the handle.
3. A safety razor comprising a guard plate, a blade, a clamping plate for clamping said blade on said guard plate, position registering means for said guard plate, said blade and said clamping plate, a guard edge on said guard plate inclined to the cutting edge of the blade and to the main portion of said guard plate, a handle and means for fixing said handle and clamping plate to said guard plate so that the guard plate is inclined to the axis of the handle and the guard edge is at right angles to the axis of the handle. y

A safety razor comprising a guard plate, a blade, a clamping plate, a screwthreaded stud fixed at an angle to said clamping plate, and adapted to engage in a hole in said guard plate and in said blade, position registering means for said guard plate, said blade and said clamping plate, a guard edge on said `guard plate inclined to the cutting edge of the blade and to the main plate, said blade and said clamping plate,
a vguard edge on said guard plate inclined to the cutting edge of the blade and to the main portion of the guard plate, a slot in the guard plate between said cutting edge and said guard edge parallel to said cutting edge, and a handle having a screwthreaded socket to receive said stud on said clamping plate.
6. A safety razor comprising a guard plate, a blade, a clamping plate, a screwthreaded stud loosely mounted on said clamping plate and adapted to engage in a hole in said guard plate and 1n said blade, position registering means for said guard plate, said blade and said clamping plate, a guard edge on said guard plate inclined to the cutting edge of theblade and to the main portion of the guard plate, a handle having a screwthreaded socket to receive said stud on said clamping plate, and means on said guard plate to engage the top of said handle socket so that when the handle is screwed on to the stud said stud inclines at an angle to the clamping plate, said ard plate is inclined to the axisof the han le and said guard edge is at right angles to the axis of the handle.

A safety razor comprising a guard plate, a double-edged blade, a clamping plate having a central screwthreaded stud inclined to said clamping plate and position- Y' ing projections adapted to engage in holes 25, in said guard plate and said blade, guard edges on the guard plate inclined to the cutting edges of the blade and to the main portion of the guard plate, slots in the ard plate between said cutting edges an said guard edges parallel to one another and to said cutting edges and a handle having a screwthreaded socket to receive said central stud on said clamping plate.
