Description

'J. W. BOWLES.
POISON BOTTLES.
I To.183;l1'[v Patented Oct.10. 1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrron.
JAMES W. BOWLES, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN POISON-BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,1 l 7, dated October 10, 1876; application filed September 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES W. BOWLES, of Louisville, county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Poison-Bottle, of which the following is a'specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved poison-bottle and Fig. 2, a horizontal section of the same on line mm, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to an improved bottle for storing and keeping poisons in such a manner that the peculiar shape of the bottle serves as a warning against the careless use of the contents and the invention consists of a bottle made in the shape of a coffin resting on the head end as a base, and having the neck applied to the upper or foot end.
In the drawing, A represents the body of my improved poisonrbottle, which is formed in the shape of a coffin. The coffin-shaped body A is placed in upright position by resting on the wider head-piece as a base. The bodyA may be made of angular or round shape according as a coffin or casket is to be imitated, the sides being conveniently used for putting on symbols of warning-as skulls, cross-bones, skeletons, 850. The neck B of the bottle is formed as an extension of the upper or foot end of the body A, and closed by a cork provided with a cap-plate having a similar death-symbol stamped or engraved thereon. The shape of the bottle, even without the symbols, but still more so with the same engraved or molded thereon, will instantly warn any one handling the bottle, and prevent thereby the accidental taking of poison, and the dangerous effects arising from the continuous use of poisonous substances.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A poison-bottle, whose body is formed in the shape of a ooffin, resting on the headpiece as a base, and having the neck formed at the upper or feet end of the same, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specitied.
