W.- B.- DEAN.
COMBINED STOP-PBR, 011112.11111) LABBLFOP. BOTTLES. l 110.289,814. Patented Den. 11, 1883.
UNITED STATES VPATENT OEETCE.
WILLIAM B. DEAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,814, dated December 11, 1883.
Application filed July 6, 1883. (No model.)
IS? rzt' w/w/n, it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, VILLIAM B. DEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Stopper, Cap, and Label for Bottles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to' the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a longitudinal vertical section of my invention applied to a bottle; Fig. 2, a similar view, showing the invention cast in one piece.
This invention relates to a combined stopper. cap, and label for bottles; and it consists, preferably, of a cone-shaped metallic cap adapted to it over the top of a bottle, and provided upon its interior with asuitable stopper for the bottles mouth, said cap being surmounted witha suitable projecting device, upon which it is designed to place letters or marks descriptive of the contents of said bottle, as will be hereinafter more fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, A represents a cap, preferably cone-shaped, having upon its interior a suitable stopper, B, said cap and stopper being usually formed from a single piece of sheet metal, either spun or struck up by suitable dies. This cap A is provided with a cover, C, surmounted by a semicircular projection, D, on which are formed or affixed the letters or marks descriptive ofthe contents of the bottle upon which said cap may be used, thus forming alasting and easily-distinguished label.
Instead of the cap and stopper being spun or struck up from sheet metal and the cover and projection independently fashioned and the devices of the character usually employed,
also, more space can be obtained upon its interior, which enables it to be used as a measure, if desired, and by the addition of a permanent label it forms a very desirable article for the use of druggists or others Whose business requires the frequent handling of bottles containing liquids or solids. v
Having now fully described` my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A combined cap, stopper, and label for bottles, consisting ofa suitable cap having formed therewith an inner stopper, and provided upon its top with a projection having thereon letters or marks descriptive of the bottles contents, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A metallic cone-shaped cap provided with an inner stopper, and a projection upon its top, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WM. B. DEAN. Witnesses:
J. B. CHEIsTIE, WM. J. DAENsTAEDT.
