Description

Patented Oct. 6, 1931 MAURICE F. BER-NSN,
OF CANADIAN, TEXAS FOLDER i Application filed March 6,
vide a folder of the type set forth, that is Simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the folder which forms the subject matter of the present invention. p Y
Figure 2 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 3 is an edge elevation.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary view illustrating the securing means for the flexible element which holds the folder in closed position.
Figure 5 is a sect-ional view taken approximately on line 5 5 of Figure 4, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the folder includes a strip l of any suitable material such as cardboard, celluloid, Viiexible metal or the like, and is folded upon itself as at 2 in a manner to provide a front 3 and a back 4 arranged in parallelism with each other as best shown in Figure 3. The back 4 is folded upon itself at its upper end as at 5 to provide a tongue 7 that is adapted to overlap the upper edge of the front, and the tongue is secured inthe position as shown throughy the 'instrumentality of clamping members 8 which likewise secure the coupons 1931. Serial No. 520,687.
and the like between the tongue and the back as shown in Figure 3.
Approximately centrally of the back 4 a relatively large rounded opening 9 is provided and disposed below the opening 9 and arranged upon opposite sides thereof is a pair or relatively small rounded openings l0. The back is split in converging relation from the openings l() in a manner to provide a substantially V-shaped tongue 11 that may be disposed at an inclination with respect to the back as shown in Figure 5, but in any event the purpose of the V-shaped tongue is to receive an elastic member l2 in the form of a rubber band which is disposed in the small round openings 10 through the instrumentality of the slits forming the tongue 11. The openings l() act as a securing means for the band which is arranged through the opening 9 and is thence disposed about the folder as best'shown in Figure 2 for holding the folder in closed position.
From the above description and disclosure vof the drawings, it will be obvious that when it is desired to remove a coupon or the like from the folder, the band or elastic member l2 is removed from about the front 3 which will then be disposed to open position, but when the flexible member l2 is arranged about the front, the contents of the folder are held in a compact manner and protected against loss or damage.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Vhat I claim is:
A folder including a strip of flexible material bent upon itself to provide a front and a back arranged in parallel relation with respect to each other, a tongue formed with the back and disposed in overlapped relation -with respect to the upper edge of the front,
clamping members passed through the back and tongue for holding the latter in operative position and the contents of the folder loo therein, said back being provided With apair vof openings With slits extending from the openings, an elastic member arranged in the openings through the medium of the slits, '5 said elastic member being adapted to be vpassed through an opening above the opening rst mentioned, for disposal about the bac-li and frontier ,holding the folder-n closed position. Y
10 n testimony whereof I aix my signature.
MAURCE F.. BERNSON.
