The present invention relates to improvements in shirt and sock supports, and has for an object to provide a garment supporter whereby the socks may be held up'and at the same time the tails of shirts held down properly beneath the trousers and prevented from working up past the belt line, which so often causes an unsightly appearance.

Another object of the present invention is to provide means for supporting socks, without interfering with the circulation of blood through the wearers legs.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved article of clothing, adapted for the above described purposes, which is easily applied, adjustable and economical in manufacture.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a simple and compact device which will function efficiently and be unobstrusive.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.

In the drawing, which shows only one embodiment of the invention:

The single figure of the drawing is a side View of a shirt and sock with the new device attached thereto in a position of use upon a man, the latter being represented by dotted lines.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 10 shows in dotted lines the outline of a man wearing a shirt 11 and sock 12. The tails of the shirt are indicated at 13.

In accordance with the invention, garter straps 14 are provided in any suitable number. These garter straps, in the embodiment shownin the drawing, diverge downwardly from a web 15 and are provided on their lower free ends with suitable fastening devices 16 by which they are attached to the sock 12 near the upper portion thereof.

The upper portion of the improved device is provided with upwardly diverging tail straps 17 which meet at their lower ends in a web 18 and are provided at their upper free ends with fastening devices 19 adapted to at tach to'the'tails 13 of the shirt '11 substantially in the manner indicated.

w-The fwebs-15aand 18 are disposed toward one another with the divergent straps 14 and 17fioutwardl-yu These webs 18 and15 are adapted, to be adjustablycoupled together by straps'20 a'nd2-1 which inter-engage in a buckle 22 for purpcses of adjustment.

Through the use of the buckle 22 the V- shaped garment attaching devices 14 and 17 1 may be brought closer together or allowed greater latitude for movement apart in accordance with the' height of the wearer. The straps or tapes 20 and 21 are preferably resilient and fiexible, being formed for instance of elastic tape which is a well known material. If desired a transverse band 23 may be provided in conjunction with the device, this band having a buckle 24 and a loop 25 which encircles the strap 21 and enables the band 23 to slide up and down upon the strap 21. This band or member 23 is adapted to encirclethe leg and may be carried above 7 or below the knee cap.

In the use of the device, the parts are secured in the manner indicated in the draw- .ing, with the fastening devices 16 at the lower end engaging with the sock 12 and the fastening devices 19 at the upper end of the device in engagement with the tails 13 of the shirt. The buckle 22 may be adjusted in accordance with the length of the device required and with the length of the users legs or shirt.- Similarly if the strap or band 28 is to be employed, the latter may be adjusted, through the buckle 24, for diameter.

It will be appreciated that by means of the words, the loops 25 act as guides for the tape 21 and a limited play only in a lateral direction is permitted by these guide loops 25. This of course assumes that the band 23 is secured with sufficient tightness about the leg. It is obvious that various changes and modifications maybe made inthe details of construction and desi of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being re-' stricted only'by the scope of the following claim: e

What is claimed is 2- e In a shirt and sock support, upper and lower webs, divergent straps carried by the webs fastening devices carried by the straps for attachment respectively to the shirt and to a sock at the outer side of the leg, elastic strap sections carried by the webs, adjustable connecting means forthe strap sections to vary the spacing apart of the'webs, a. limb encircling band, means for adjustably fitting the band to the leg against the knee, and a loop carried by the band at the outer side thereof for slidably and loosely receiving the elastic strap sections therethrough to maintain the latter in line with the leg when the knee is bent.
