Description
March 25, 1930, c. F. PERTHEL TROUSERS SUPPORT AND ATTACHING MEANS Filed Aug. 22, 1928 INVENTOR ATTORNEY latented Mar. 25, 1930 (:AR]: 1*. PERTHEL, on NORTHFIELD, New HAMrsHIRi TROUSERS SUPPORT AND ATTAGHINGIMEANY'S Application filed. August 22, 1928. Serial No. 301,344.
This invention relates to garment supports and has for an object the provision of means for connecting suspender straps to a pair of trousers without the use of buttons, and in a manner to permit of ready attachment or detachment of the suspenders.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for connecting a suspenders with a pair of trousers which will eliminate the usual attaching loops of suspenders and of the ordinary will conceal the adjusting buckles, the latter being utilized as a part of the connecting means.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel buckle and garment carried member, both of which are especially adapted for engagement with one another, the buckle providing means for adjusting the suspenders as well as means for engagement with the trousers carried member.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a portion of a pair of trousers with the invention applied.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective look ing at the inside of the waistband of the trousers and showing the manner of connecting the suspenders with the trousers.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
' Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure '5 is a detail perspective'view of the trousers carried member.
Figure 6 is a like view of the suspender carried member, a portion of one of the suspender straps being shown by dotted lines.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates the waistband of a pair of trousers and 11 a portion of one of the straps of a pair of suspenders. The suspenders may be type except that the usual buttonengaging loops are eliminated. Only a portlon of one of the suspender straps is shown as is only one of the attaching devices,
but it is of course obvious that one of these attaching devices will be provided for each end of a strap.
The attaching device as shown in Figure 5 comprises a trousers carried member 12 which includes spaced end sections 13 which are substantially U shaped in cross section and are connected by a central bar 1 1. The U- shaped ends of the trousers carried member.
are removably positioned within pockets-15 which are attached to the inside of the waistband 10. These pockets are arranged in pairs and have their opposed edges open to receive the trousers carried member 12.
The strap 11 carries a buckle which in! cludes a buckle plate 16. This plate is formed with three parallel bars between which are provided slots or openings 17. The strap 11 is threaded through these openings as shown by dotted lines in Figure 6 of the drawings.
The strap is also threaded through an openei ing 18 provided in a locking plate 19. This plate includes spaced bars, one of which is relatively wide. This bar is shown at 20 and the strap 11 is looped around this bar.
The strap carried member is adjustablyl positioned upon the strap, the locking plate 19 lying flat against the buckle plate.
As will be seen from Figure 6 of the drawingsthe opposite ends of the plates 16 and 19 extend beyond the side edges of the strap and these extended ends are adapted to be received beneath the adjacent ends of the sections 13 of the trousers carried member so that the suspender strap may be quickly and readily attached to or detached from the trousers.
The locking plate 19 prevents the strap from slipping and in order to release the strap, the locking plate may be moved pivotally with the wide bar 20 as a fulcrum. This action will draw the strap through the openings 17 and expand the loop as shown in Figure 6. I
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the rightis herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention What is claimed is:
f 1. Means for attaching a supporting strap to a garment comprising a garment carried member including spaced end sections of substantially U shaped cross section and a bar connecting said sections, spaced pockets carried by the garment to receive the end sections of the garment carried member, andto a garment comprising a garmentcarried member, spaced pockets carried by the garment to receive and support-said member, a strap carried member adapted for removable engagement With the garment carried member, said strap carried member including a buckle plate having a sliding engagement with the strap, and a combined locking and releasing plate alsoengaging the strap and adapted'to lie flat against'the buckle Pla In testimony whereof I aflix my signature; 7 V CARL F. PERTHEL;
