Description

L. B. LAZIER SUSPENDER Filed April 16 1925 @ttor Haq Patented Aug. 11, 1925.
UNITED STATES LESTER IB. LAZIER, 0F BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
SUSPENDER.
Application filed April 16, 1925.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, Lnsrnn B. LAZIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Suspender, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in suspenders, and particularly Suspenders adapted for use by men for supporting the trousers.
An object of the invention resides in providing a suspender formed of a single suspender element having the central portion formed of a curved section for application around the neck and over the shoulders of a wearer with the opposite end portions carrying adjustable elastic sections having suitable fasteners at the ends for removably receiving suspender loops adapted for attaclnnent to the trousers, and for eXtension through suitable openings in the shirt `so that the suspender may be worn under the shirt.
A further object of the invention is to provide a suspender of the above character which will be comfortable to the wearer and provide a pair of supporting points for the trousers at opposite sides thereof, and which will not place an undue stra-in in supporting the trousers in the various positions of the wearer.
A still further object of the invention resides in providing a special form of suspender loop having a loop formed in the central portion and retained therein by a knot, said knot serving to prevent the Withdrawal of the loop through the buttonhole formed in the shirt when the loop is removed from the button on the trousers, while the ends are secured together to forni a substantially large loop portion for receiving the fastening means on the end of the elastic section to which it is secured.
The invention comprehends other objects and improvements in the details of construction and formation of the parts which are more particularly pointed out in the following description and claims directed to the preferred form of the invention, it bes ing understood however that various changes may be made in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth herein.
Serial N0. 23,562.
` pli-cation- Figure l illustrates the manner of applying the invention so that the suspender will be concealed beneath the shirt, and only the button loop shown on the outside thereof.
Figure 2 is an enlarged view showing the suspender laid out to illustrate the shape and arrangement together with the detailed consruction of the several parts.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective View of the suspender loop showing the manner in which it is inserted through a button hole in the shirt when the suspender is first placed in, use.
Referring more particularly to Figure 2, the central portion l of the suspender which is made to fit over the shoulders and around the neck as illustrated in Figure l is composed of a pair of fabric sections of a suitable soft fabric sevved together along thc edges as indicated at 2, which sections are cut according to a curved pattern in order that thef side indicated by the numeral 3 will be substantially shorter than that indicated at 4, so that the curved fabric sections will conveniently and comfortably fit the back of the neck of the wearer as illustrated in Figure l and pass over the shoulders so that this central section will not wrinkle or be uncomfortable when being worn in the position as illustrated in Figure l. Link portions of usual construction indicated at 5 are mounted in the end portions of the sections l and to which are connected the adjustable elastic sections 6. A fastener 7 is connected to one end of each elastic section while the opposite ends are loosely passed through the members 8 and secured at their ends to the links 5 by assing the ends through the links and stitc ing them to the adjacent end portions of the section. This permits the fastener 7 to be adjusted for lengthening or shortening the portions of the sections looped through members 8 so that the length ofthe suspender may be conveniently and readily adjusted.
Each elastic section 6 carries at its free end, opposite the end of the section l, suitable end members 8 which carry the cast offs 9 having the separable fasteners l0 and which hold the suspender loops l1.
These suspender loops are formed of a single length of cord adapted for the pur- I it/.tama
pose which is shown particularly in Figure 3. The central portion of the coi-dis *formed into a loop as indicated at 12 which is retained in form by the knot 13, while the free ends extend and are secured in parallel relation by the binding 14 of any suitable character. The tree ends when bound by the binding 14 form an additional loop which is adapted to be received by the cast oi's 9.
The Suspenders are worn under the shirt so as to be concealed in the manner as illustrated in Figure 1, and when being applied, the suspender loops 11 are removed from the cast Otis 9 while the central section with the elastic sections are applied around the neck with the ends extending forwardly over the shoulders and down the 'front of the body and substantially at the side portions thereof. The suspender loops 11 then have the parallel ends secured as shown at 14 extended through the button holes 1,5
which have been previously Jformed in the shirt, which are then received and secured by the cast offs 9 to the ends ot the elastic sections in the manner as illustrated in Fignre 2. ln this connection it will be noted that the knot 13 serves to prevent the loop 12 from being drawn inwardly through the button holes to the inside of the shirt which would cause considerable incoi'ivenience in the use and application of the suspenders to the trousers. In this way the loops arev always available so that they may be readily applied to the buttons on the inside ot the waist bandot' the trousers as illustrated in Figure 1 to eliectively support the same.
As the ends of the suspender structure are secured at the sides ot the trousers and substantially under the arms, it will be seen that the twistingmovements ot the body will not be exerted inthe majority or movements to exert a pull on the elastic sections, as the bending movements will normally be laterally with respect to the directions ot the Suspenders. It will therefore be seen that a. comfortable and simple suspender structure is provided which may be worn under the shirt and concealed from view, and wherein the portion which lits the neck is tailored to lit the curvature of the body at this portion in order to provide the most comfortable fit.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A suspender, comprising a central curved section, a pair ot adjustable elastic sections secured to the ends et the curved section, cast oils on the ends of the elastic sections, and suspender loops removably held by said cast oii's having knots tied in their central portions, said suspender loops being adapted for attachment to the trousers and ttor extension through button holes formed in the shirt in order that the suspender may be concealed under the shirt, said knots preventing the withdrawal ot the loops through the shirt.
2. A suspender, comprising a single suspender member having a curved central portion, and adjustable elastic sections at the ends ot said central portion carrying cast oiii's, and suspender loops adapted ttor removable connection with said cast otis and formed oi' cord members having loops provided in the central portion, said cord ineinbers being provided with a knot tor maintaining the loops in the central portions, the end portions extending. in parallel relation, and securing` means for binding the end portions in rigid connection, said knot preventing the withdrawal ot the loops in one direction through buttonholes formed in a shirt.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
