This invention relates to improvements in organ pipes, and itsobject is to provide an article o'j this character, the body of which consists of paper, or other non-metallic material.
Another object is a means for the adjustment of the tone slot, especially adapted for pipes constructed of material of the above described character.
These, and other objects and features 01 the device, will be fully described in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring now, to -Figure 1 of the drawings, the pipe 10 is seen to be ofthe usual form, having a vent 11 a mouth piece or intake 12, and a tone slot 13 which is best seen in Figure 2. Referring again to Figure 1, adjustable wing pieces 14: and 15 project outward from the sides of the vent 11. These wing pieces are of lead or of some material having like characteristics, such as the capacity for being easily bent and of retaining the exact degree of flexure applied. The pieces are imbedded in the body of the pipe and are used to vary the action of the vent as required. The. usual block 16 is opposite to the said vent.
In Figures 2 and 3, the tone adjuster 18 may be seen imbedded in the body of the pipe and curled outward as at 19 at the bottom of the tone slot 13. This also is of lead, or similar material, ribbon like in form, and

The structure of the body of the pipe is composed of non-metallic material such as paper, or similar substance, and is chemically treated to permanently exclude moisture from its fibres and to. be thus protected against the effect of any normal variations in the temperature, or the moisture content of the surrounding air.
The pipe is coated with a protective covering as seen at 21 in Figure 2. This may be paint, a metallic deposit, or the like.
A modified form of the tone adjuster is seen in Figures 5 and 6 at 24. This comprises the basic element 18, a supporting band 25, side lips 26 and 27 and a slotted winding pin 28 which is provided with a head 29 and is threaded at its end portion to receive the nut 30. The enlarged view in Figure 7 shows this element clearly. When manipulated for tuning, the pin is turned to wind the ribbon and thus vary the area of the tone slot 13, the band 25 is moved up or down in accord with the winding. square head may be provided if desired.
Another form of the body structure is illustrated in Figures 8 and 9, in which it may be seen that thin sheets of material are wound about each other as'seen at 35, 36 and 37. by adhesive substance applied between the layers as at 39, and the pipe thus formed is treated chemically as before stated.
It is understood that the pipes thus constructed are adapted for use in any form of sound producing instruments and with such further modifications as such use may involve, and are therefore claimed broadly within this classification and within the limits of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In a sound pipe of the class described, a body of non-metallic elemental structure, and provided with means for intake and air vent, and having a tone control aperture, and adjacent to the said aperture, an adjustable element comprising a non-elastic ribbon having its base end secured to the body of the said pipe and its outer end engaged within. the slot of a rotatable pin, and means to support the said pin in operative position.

provided With an intake and air vent, and having a tonecontrol aperture, a support- 5 ing band engaged upon the said body, and formed With side lips, a slotted winding pin mounted for rotation in the said lips, a slotted head at one end of the Winding pin for turning purposes, a nut engaged up 10 on the other end of the said pin for holding the pin against displacement, and :1 non elastic'ribbon secured at one end on the said body, and the other end engaging the slot in the pin, and arranged for varying the area of the tone control aperture upon turning of said slot-ted head.
