\ M. E. KING ENVELOPE Filed August 14, 1924 WW IL Iii 7 w Patented Mar. 23, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
MOSES E. KING, OF NEENAH, WISCONSIN.
nnvnnorn.
Application filed August 14, 1924. Serial No. 732,125.-
To all whom it may concern;-
Be it. known that I, Moses E.' K 1No, a citizen of the United States, residing at Neenah, in the county of \Vinneba-go and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new. and useful, Improvement in Envelopes, of which-the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to improvements in envelopes and has for its object to 'provlde an article of this character having integral means whereby the envelope may be conveniently and securely aflixed to a package when forwarding packages by parcel post, so letters of instructions may accompany the goods.
A further object of the invention is to provide an envelope attachable to a package,
to which access may be-readily had for removing the contents thereof.
Another object'of the invention 1s to provlde an article ofthe above character which is simple and strong in construction, convenient in use and inexpensive to manufacture.
()ther objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course -of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1, is a perspective view of a package with my envelo e aflixed thereto,
Fig. 2, is a p an view of the blank which the envelope is formed,
from
lope fore folding the flaps,
Fig.1 is a front elevation of the envelope close Fig.6, is a cross-section on lines 5-5 of on lines 6-6 of envelope is formed which is folded along the line B to'form the front and back walls 5 and 6. The side edges-of the front wall5 walls together.
Fig). 3, is a front elevation of the enveare provided with longitudinally extending flaps 7 which are transversely perforated at spaced intervals, as at 8, to fornr the central .tabs 9 which extend beyond the edges of the flaps. The portion of the flaps on each side of the tabs are gummed on their" under sides, so when folded around the edges of the back wall 6 they will hold the front and back The tabs are also folded around the edges'of the back wall, but are gummed on their outer. surface, so the en velope may be securely aflixed to a package 12 or the like] The upper edge of the front Wallis recessed, as at 10, to facilitate the in- 'sertion and removal of the letter from the envelope and is closed by the flap 11 formed integral with the upper edge of the back wall which folds down against the front walland sealed thereto, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.
tion, the envelope may be conveniently attached to the package, and when it reaches its destination may .be readily detached therefrom, without affecting the tabs securing the envelope together. Its construction will insure the safety of-the contents and by folding the securing tabs beneath the envelope, afl'ord protection against accidental displacement while the package is in transit. e c
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example ofthe same and that certain changes in the shape,
size and arrangement'of parts ma be resorted to without departing from tie spirit of the inventionor the scope of the subjoined claim. I
Having thus described my invention, I '7 claim An envelope formed from a single sheet along opposite sides. of the front wall and contlguous therewith, said flaps being transy of material folded upon itself to form front and back walls, longitudinal flaps extending In use, it will be seen that the function 'of dividing the end flaps into three sections is to provlde tabs for securing the envelope versely perforated at spaced intervals providing a central and end tabs, said end tabs having cement on their adapted to fold over the adjacent edges of 5 the back wall to secure the front and back Walls together, said central tab being foldable over the back wall and having cement under face and on its upper face whereby the envelope may be'secured to an object, and a closing flap formed along theupper edge of the back 10 well adapted to, be folded over and secured to the front wall. i V
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
-. MOSES E. KING.
