Be it known that I, PERRY J. SNowDnN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Oil Burner for Cook Stoves and the like; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,` clear, and exa-ct dscription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, v in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to a fuel oil burner adapted to burn kerosene and the like.
The chief object of the invention is to construct a burner of the character described which is suitable for stove use, particularly heating stoves and cookstoves, etc.
The chief feature of the invention consists in the super-positioning of the several parts constituting the burner and the gravity flow of vapor produced in said burner into meeting engagement with the rising air currents supplied to the burner, which produces a peripherally surrounding frame r for heating purposes including vaporizing the fuel.
'Another feature of the invention consists in the provision of a plurality of superposed vaporizing chambers having restricted communication with each other and the lowcrmost chamber discharging laterally the vaporized fuel from a well and beneath the chamber in innnediate communication therewith.
Another feature of the `invention consists in the provision of an annular air supply which includes a plurality of coverid tubular portions separated by intermediate portions.V said tubular portions vhaving a substantially free and laterally and inwardly discharging aperture and 'said connecting portions having a perforated cover for discharging air upwardly and outwardly into meeting engagement with lateral discharged fuel in vapor form which'is discharged transversely of the first mentioned air supply. f u f i rPhe full naturev ofthe invention will be understood vfrom lthe accompanying 'drawings Vand the following description l and claims-zv -f v, L f

In the drawings 11 indicates a peripherally and lrrein circular outlined base member including an inwardly extending flange 12. Projecting upwardly from said flange 12v is a peripherally outlined flange 13 which may or rmay not be similar to the outline of the portion 11. A central aperture 14.` is provided and the wall 15 thereof constitutes a support ledge for thev suitably outlined air supply member or sccondary base. Said base includes an outer wall 16 and an inner wall 17. Connecting said walls are the radially positioned walls 1S arranged in spaced relation to form tubular portions indicated at 19, which discharge ,'-inwardly and laterally through openings 20.
The top 21 forms a supporting portion which, however, is 'separated from the adjacent supports and similar supporting portions by an air gap. This air gapy is formed by the cover portion 23 having the air ports 22 therein which cover connection is adjacent radial walls 18. Airv in the peripherally outlined channel formed by the outer and inner'walls, 16 and 17 respectively, thus is discharged upwardly and outwardly from the perforated cover 23 and inwardly and laterally through ythe outlets 2O of the v tubular constructions.
l The inner wall 17 at its lower end is extended inwardly,V and upwardly and terminates in a central hollow support Q4 connected to said wall by the yintermediate portion 25. The central support lfis adapted to receive the tubular portion 26 which is externally threaded at 27 to receive a nut 28 for drawing ,together the remainder of" the casing connected with said tubular portion 26 so thatit rests as indicated at 29 upon the cover portions 21. Plate portion 30 fonms a lower wall of the chamber through which the` hollow stem 31 extends.

It will thus be apparent that the air which is supplied through the ports 2O divides upon the inner wall of a. channel defined by the well Staand passes laterally along said wall and creates' suc tion upon theports 38 for the drawing of v aporized fuel`therethrough and into intimate mixture. In communication withr the channel 55 formed by the intermediate portion 25, the inner wall'l, andthe bearing 24, is a discharge conduit or pipe 56 that pro-jects be yond the wall 13 and is adapted to discharge eXcess fuel into the trough 57 formed by thel three wall portions,11, 12 and 13. lThis insures starting of' the burner since when the fuel is supplied to the tubular stem or standard 81 it firstdiscliarges as liquid fuel through the ports 38 into chamber 55 and thence through the pipe 56 to the ring 57.- lIgnition of the fuel iii-this ring serves to heat not'only the incoming' an' discharged through Ythe tubes 19 butf also serves to heat the? inclinedl wall Li2 ofthe in teriorcfnstruction and vinthis way initial vaporizationof the fuel isvsecured. The invention claimed is:
1. In an oilburner, the combinationv of a plurality of periphera-lly arranged laterally and inwardly discharging air tubes7 a plurality of upwardly discharging air outlets positioned between said air tubes for forming a combined air stream, and an upwardly' directed air channel' centrally positioned and including laterally and outwardly discharging air outlets communicating with the upwardly discharging air outlets.

A device of the character described in claim Q characterized by said vapoijizing .chamber having depending portions-posiforming a combined air stream, anupwar-dly directet. air channel centrally positioned and including laterally and outwardly discharging air outlets communicating with the upwardly discharging air outlets, and a superposed vaporiziiig Chaniber including a well provided with outwardly and laterally discharging fuel supply ports for discharging fuel into the inwardly discharged air current, a central air channel including laterally and outwardly discharge -air outlets, both sets of said outlets being arranged for forming the combined air stream into'which the fuel is discharged and said yaporizing chamber havii'ig depending portion"J positioned in radial registration with the outwardly discharging fuel supply ports and positiona-ble between said air tubes for forming a baille adjacent the fuel discharge.

7. ln an oil burner the combination of a pluralityv of peripherally arranged and spaced air supplying tubes, a vaporizing chamber positioned thereaboif'e and eX- tending downwardly within said peripherally arranged tubes and in spaced relation therewith, and a skirt construction substantially surrounding said `vaporizing construction and having depending portions positioned between said tubes for substantially enclosing the depending vapoiizing construction.
8. ln an oil burner the combination of a. vaporizing construction includinga depending well haring outwardly discharging fuel supply ports, ineaiis for supplying air in surrounding` relation with said well including air discharging means positioned beneath said well and discharging laterally and outwardly therefrom, other air discharging. meansl poiitioiied adjacent thereto for discharging upwardly and outwardly and transversely of the fuel discharge, and
other means discharging air inwardly and about said well.

In an oil burner the combination of a Vaporizing construction including a depending well having outwardly discharging fuel supply ports, ieaiis for supplying air in surrounding relation with said well including air discharging means positioned beneath said well and discharging laterally and outwardly therefrom, other air disi charging means positioned adjacent thereto for discharging upwardly and outwardly and transversely the fuel discharge, other means discharging air inwardly and about said well, and a detlecting shirt positioned adjacent the outwardly discharging fuel poi-ts.
