To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS R. UMBEN- HOWER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Anderson, county of Madison,
and State of Indiana, have invented a cer" tain new and Iuseful Vapor Oil-Burner; and
I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact 'description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates. to vapor oil burners and the like, and is an improvement on the invention shown in Patent No. 714,112,dated November. 18, 1902.
The object of this invention is to provide by the'modication andrearrangement of parts and the addition of supplementary air vents for the complete combustion of the fuel in the structure described inthe beforementioned patent. y
Another object of the invention is to provide the burner with an improved deflector v and heatingplate for'taking) full advantagel of all the heat generated y the burning fuel, so that the same will not pass directly from the burner to the stove-pipe on the stove. y
The full nature-of. this invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and;
claims.
In the drawings, which are made a part of this application, Figure lisa central cross sectional view lof the improved vapor oil burner. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the burner with the heating plate removed and other parts being broken away.
In the drawings 10 indicates a pipe lead--l ing from any suitable supply of oil, such as kerosense or the like; 11 indicating a con- .trol valve and 12 an upwardly extending portion which is threaded at its upper end to receive a dome 13, the same having an upwardly extending rim 14 concentric therewith and a discharge outlet 15 in the center thereof. thick and solid, especially in the upper portion so that it will holdconsiderable heat.
A supporting base plate 16 in the form of an annular ring with ay central hollow opening 17 is provided with four inwardly projecting bracket arms 18 spaced at an equal distance from each other and suitably notched or beaded to receive and support what may be termed' an 4,oil ring or oil pan and the cylindrical casing 26 The dome .while hollow is rather f 19, which is cylindrical and has an outer upwardly extending rim 20V and an inner upwardly extending rim 2l carrying a pipeguide 22 through which the pipe 12 extends. Air passages 23 are provided between the inner rim 21 and the guide supporting portions 24. The oil ring 19 is also provided with aplurality of air ppnings 25 herein shown inthe form of u es.
The outer rim of the ring 19 supports a i pipe-guide 22 by the cylindrical casing 26 herein shown in the .i form of a hollow truncated cone, the same having at its base anvoutwardly and downwardly extending portion-27 to seat on said casing. In the base of said truncated cone there are provided a pluralityv of passages or openings 2 8. Concentric with and supportedl by the casing 26 is an inverted bowl-shaped hood 29 provided with a downwardly extendingapron 30, the same being concentric with the oil ring 19 and being spaced 'therefrom to form an annular air passage therebetween. The hood 29 supports a combined heating plate and deflec- *tor 31, herein shown in the form of an iny verted saucer with scalloped edges 32. forms an annular pmixing and combustion chamber, which receives air for combustionjand vaporization throughthe air passages28` in 4 the lower portion of the casing and the air openings 25 and 23' in the oil ring.4 In addition to the before mentioned air passages there are provided inthe dome the openring 19 are the openings 37,- the connected by the airtubes V38.
From the foregoing description it will be understood that there are provided a plurality of. air passages for supplying air to the mixing chamber and the combustion same being -.area above the dome and below the heating plate; the first -being the annular air passage between the casing and the hood and the passages 28 the central openmg 17 and vioo v"ings 36, and registering therewith in the oil i the air passages forming a second air passage, the central opening 17 and the air passages 23 forming a thirdv source of supply, and the tubes 38 forming a fourth means for supplying air to the mixing chamber, so that the oil is completely vaporized and burned. With this construction and as indicated by the arrows a better draft is obtained adjacent to the vaporizing portion of the dome 13 andin the casing 26.
The operation of the device is similar to that shown in the patent herein before mentioned, the oil running downr the dome 13 into the rim 14 and thence into the oil ring 19. The fuel' is ignited by presenting a flame to the openings 33 or the combustion area beneath the combined heating plate.

The burning fuel in the oil pan 20 will soon heat the upper end of the pipe 12 and the dome 13 and be suiiciently heated to vaporize the oil as it passes out through the discharge opening 15. Through the air passages described oxygen is supplied to the flame and causes thefuel to be completely vaporized and burned.
The invention claimed is:
' 1. A11 oil burner comprising means for supplying oil thereto, a dome having an outlet therein, a portion over which the oil may -iow including a rim, an oil pan beneath said dome and concentric therewith, said pan having a plurality of openings'for the admission of air, a cylindrical casin concentric with and surrounding said dome and having a plurality of air passages in its lower end, a hood concentric with said pan and casing and suitably spaced therefrom,
' said dome and pan having registering openings therein, and an air tube connecting said registering openings.
2. An voil burner comprising means for supplying oil thereto, a ,dome having an outlet therein, a portion over which the oil may flow including a rim, an oil pan concentric with said domeand having a plurality of air openings therein, a supporting base having an opening therein, a cylindrical casing concentric with and surrounding said dome and having a plurality of air passages in its lower rim, a hood concentric with said pan and casing and suitably spaced t from the same and the base, said dome and said pan havingregistering openings therein, and a tube connecting said registering openings and communicating .with the opening in said base for supplying air to the burner.
. 3. An oil burner comprising'means for supplying oil thereto, a dome having an outlet therein, a portion over which the oil may iow, including a rim, an oil pan beneath said dome and concentric therewith and hav-v ing a plurality of tubes for the admission of air, a cylindrical casing supported by said -pan and concentric therewith and having a plurality of air passages in its lower end, a hood concentric with said pan and casing and suitably spaced therefrom to provide an annular air passage, a supporting base having a central opening therein, said tubes communicating with said opening, a delector suitably positioned above said dome and supported by said hood, said dome and said pan having-a plurality of registering 'openings therein, and a plurality of tubes and concentric therewith, a hood concentric with said casing, a deflector supported above said dome and being of greater diameter than any of the before mentioned parts, said deflector having a downwardly extending rim with scalloped edges anda plurality of openings in the central portion thereof, said deilector further having a plurality of depending bracket feet to rest upon said hood, and said feet having cam-shaped faces for vvengaging the casing and centering the deflectior centrally of said burner.
