Description
Aug. 25', 1925- BRUSH Filed Aug. 6, 1924 ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 25, 1,925.
` ALFRED H. HANSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BRUSH.
'Application led August 6, 1924.. Serial No. 730,474.
To all whom z5/may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED I-I. HANsoN, a citizen of the lUnited States, residing at 4121 W. Lake St., Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have vinvented new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in brushes and more particularly to a type of `brush which is particularly adapted for use in cleaning automobiles and thelike. The main object of my invention is the provision of a brush adapted to be used with or without a novel spray apparatus whereby the-brushes may be utilized for cleansing motor vehicles, busses and the like.
Another obj ect of my invention is the provision of a brush having novel means for detachably connecting the brush to a spray nozzle whereby the water or cleansing fluid issuing from the mouth of the nozzle will be readily conveyed to the brush and absorbed thereby for use in` c.eansing purposes.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangement of` parts hereinafter more fully so set forth, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a plan view ofl a brush constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a similar view on a smaller scale illustrating the brush member detached from the spray nozzle,
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the Vline 3-3 of Fig. l,
Fig. 4: is a detail longitudinal section through the mouth of the spray nozzle and Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the'line 5 5 of Fig. 1. y
' In carrying out my invention I provide a 45 brush member 1 which'may be of any form desired and properly constructed of two pieces of wire twisted together as shown at 2 with the bristles 3' of the brush engaged between the twisted strands of the wire.
The ends of thevtwisted strands are arranged parallel in the present .instance as clamping shown at 4 and disposed within a U-shaped clamping plate 5 which is attached tothe nozzle 6 by means of a bolt 7 passing through the nozzle and a wing nut 8 upon its threaded end for moving the plate 5 into v disposed in the corners of the `U-shaped' clamping plate and positioned directlyy against the outer surface of the nozzle 6, the wing nut 8 retaining the plate 5 in clamping position to securely hold the ends of the brush in place.
In the outer 'end of the nozzle member 6r a sleeve 9 is arranged having an opening 10 therethrough of a smaller diameter than the main portion of the nozzle and attention is hereby directed to the fact that the bolt 7 extends transversely across this reduced opening 10 and forms restricted outlets 11 upon each side of bolt 7 so that water passing through the nozzle under pressure will be sprayed as it passes lout of the sleeve 9 thoroughly saturating the brush with the cleansing fluid so that it may be readily applied to the parts being cleansed.
The nozzle 6 may be attached to a hose line 12 by means of a coupling V13 or any.
other suitable manner. t
While in the above description I have set forth a particular type of brush, I wish it to be understood that various types of brushes may be used with the ends of the strands clamped to the nozzle by means of the clamping plate 5. It will be apparent that the brushes may be quickly and readily pressed in position and securely clamped against movement through the adjustment of the wing nut 8 or they'may be quickly and readily removed when it is desired to change the character of the brush.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made Without departing plate mounted upon the bolt and adjustable 10 from the spirit of the invention or the seope means on the bolt whereby said plate may of the appended Claim. be moved toward and away from the nozzle Y Having thus described my invention, for Clamping the brush in position with re- 5 what claim is: speet to the outer end ot the nozzle.
A device of the character described in- In testimon)7 whereof my signacludingl a brush member, a nozzle, a bolt eX- ture. tending transversely through the nozzle at the outer end thereof, a U-shaped clamping ALFRED H. HANSDN.
