SAFETY RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented'eluly is, 11922.
Application filed July 10, 1919. Serial No. 309,880.
T 0 allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR L. GLASER, a
, citizen of the United States, residin at Oak Park, in the county of Cook and I-llinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Razors, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in safety razors.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a yielding connection between theblade holder, or head, and the. handle of a safety razor, whereby to make the operation of the razor more efficient and comfortable to the user.
'Th'einvention may take the form of an attachment which may be introduced at any time between the major parts of razors already in existence so that razors of standard type may be furnished with the. attach-' ment. I p
Another object of the invention is to provi'de an attachment consisting of a spring having threaded terminals for introduction between the blade-holding vhead and the handle and which cooperate with the threaded portions of these members.
Other and further objects of my invention will become readily apparent, "to persons skilled in the art, from. a considerationof the "following description when taken inconjunction with the drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is an. elevation showing part .in section, taken on line 1-1 of Fig. 2, of a well known type of safety razor with my attachment inserted between the head and the handle thereof.
Fig. 2 isan elevation of the device at right angles to Fig. 1. i 5
' ig. 3 is a perspective view of the at tachment.
In all the views thesame reference characters are employed to indicate similar parts.
The head A of the razor comprises a blade-holding part 5, provided with. a threaded stud 6. that projects through the blade 7 and through .the guard 8. The. threaded stud 6 usually extends into a threaded opening 9, of the socket 10 secured on the end of the handle B.
My improvement consists of the part C tate of i which comprises a substantially U-shaped spring'll, made, preferably, of spring steel and properly tempered, provided with a threaded stud 12, similar in character in every respect to the stud 6, for insertion in the threaded opening 9 of the socket 10. On its other end itfis provided witha nut 13, screw threaded, as at 14, for insertion on the stud 6 of the head 8.
To insert the cushioning device C between the head and handle of the razor it is only necessary to unscrew the handle so that the 'stud 6 is removed from the threaded socket a harsher and a more stubborn beard should usea stifie'r or stronger spring.
The result produced by the efiect 'of'the spring is very. pronounced and satisfactory, makin the act of shaving much more comfortab e than when the'blade-holding head is rigidly attached to the handle.
Having described my invention, what'I" claim is 1. An attachment for a safety razor which has a relatively rigid blade holder and a relatively rigid handle, comprising asub stantially U shaped spring member one leg of which is attachable against the blade holder to carry the same and the other leg of which is attachable against the end of the handle.
2. A safety razor comprlsing arelatively rigid blade holder having a threaded stud, a relatively rigid handle having a threaded socket, a. resilient substantially U shaped member having a threaded socket to receive the stud of the blade holder,- stud for securing said member to the handle.
and a threaded In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribed my name.
