SECURING DEVICE FOR- LOOPED $TRAPS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE T. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Brooklyn of the city of New York, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Securing Devices for Looped Straps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved device for the ready attachment and detachment of looped straps, such as are commonly employed in securing wrist watches upon the wrists of wearers. Such straps are commonly made with or are made to form a loop to receive a straight bar which forms a part of the watch itself or of the clip which serves for the adjustment of the length of the strap. To permit the engagement of such a looped strap with such a bar, either the bar itself has been pivoted at one.end and provided at the other end with a fastening device, which construction is liable to accidental release of the strap, or the strap is provided at one end with a flat eye through which the other part of the strap is drawn after it has been passed about the bar, the flat eye being then drawn up close to the bar, which arrangement is clumsy and undesirable because it involves several thicknesses of the strap in close proxiinity to the bar. By this invention provision is made whereby the' objections to both of these arrangements are overcome, the strap is easily engaged with the bar, accidental disengagement is impossible, and the necessary strength is retained. The invention will be more fully explained hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing in which it is illustrated, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a wrist watch provided with the improved securing device, the strap being shown partly in section.

Fig. 3 is a detail view of the watch as seen from the right hand in Fig. 1, partly broken out, the manner of introducing the strap being indicated by dotted lines.

In Figs. 1-5, the watch a, which may be of ordinary construction, is shown as having at opposite sides a tubular bar Z2, Z2 secured to the watch by arms 79 Either or both of the tubular bars I), I) might be adapted for the ready attachment or detachment of the wrist strap 0, but in the drawing only one of such bars is so shown. For this purpose the bar I) is formed with a gap 72 which is suiiiciently wide to permit the fabric of the strap to be slipped through it, and
is preferably disposed obliquely to the axis of the tubular bar 6. When the pin d is pulled out, as shown in Fig; 3, the strap can be readily connected with or disconnected from the bar, but when the pin is in the position shown in Figs. 11 and 2 the gap 6 is closed thereby so asto prevent the disengagement of the strap from the bar, the pin also serving to prevent excessive springing or bending of either member of the bar should a strain be put upon the strap.

In the construction shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the device is constructed as shown in Figs. 1,2 and 3 and is applied to a clip e, such as is commonly employed with a strap for a wrist watch.
Various other embodiments and applica tions of the invention will readily suggest themselves.
I claim as my invention: 1. A securing device for a looped strap comprising a fixed, rigid bar having a gap between its ends, means to support the members of the bar in fixed relation and means to close the gap.
2. A securing device for a looped strap comprising a fixed, rigid, tubular bar having a gap between its ends, means to support the members of the bar in fixed relation and a pin arranged to slide in the tubular bar to close the gap.
3. A securing device for a looped strap comprising a fixed, rigid, tubular bar having a gap between its ends, means to support the members of the bar in fixed relation, a pin arranged to slide in the tubular bar to close the gap and means to prevent the complete withdrawal of the pin.
