Be it known that I, FRANCISC. SANDERS, a citizen'of the United States, residing at in the county of Bannock, in the State of idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Store-Front Constructions, ofwhich the following is a specifi cation.
'This invention relates to store front constructions. It is an object of my invention to provide a new and improved bar for securmg in place the edge of one or more panes of glass, and so designed that the retaining member may be quickly and readlly secured in place from the exterior.
It is a further object of my invention to provide a bar of this class with an improved finishing strip for covering the retaining means which can be readily and quickly laced in position after the glass has been Installed and the retaining members secured in lace.

The bar consists of an inner retaining member 10 which is provided with resilient flanges 11 and an outerchannel retaining member 12, provided with resilient flanges 13, the edges of the glass being held between the resilient flanges 11 and 13 of the inner Specification of Letters Patent.

and outer members in such a manner as to yield under abnormal pressure, and also to allow for the expansion and contraction of the glass. For securing the outer retaming member 12 to the inner members, I provide a plurality of threaded screws 14, depending upon the length of the bar, which screws pass through openings in the channel of the outer retaining member and back through a non-rotatable nut 15 positioned 1n the inner retaining member. It is obvious, however, that the non-rotatable nut may be omltted and the retaining screws 14 screwed directly into a screw-threaded opening in the inner retaining member. It Wlll thus be seen that the outer retaining member is secured in lace from the outside, which Is of great a vantage, can be secured in place from the outside, and, too, as 1s frequently the case, it is extremely difiicult, if not impossible, to tighten the retaining screws or retainin means from the inside, for example, w ere the bar s ositioned close to a supporting beam orv 1r er 20, as shown in Fig. 4.
0 provide a smooth outer surface and to cover the retaining means so that they will not be exposed to the weather, and thus subect to corroslon or rust, I provide a finish- 1ng strip 16, adapted to be readily placed andmoved to its normal position after the retaining members have been drawn up and the glass secured in place.
In the finishing strip shown it is substantially V-shaped in form with its inner edges spaced apart and provided with a pluralas the glassbers together, in which case, I provide the retaining screw with a shoulder 18, adapted to engage the outer member in the depression of the channel 11. In either. case whether I use the retaining head as a separate screw or the retainin head as a part of the retaining screw 14, t e finishing strip 16 is first placed so that the apertures register with the retaining heads, as shown in Fig. 3, and the finishing strip is then turned to the right in the particular illustration shown, until the retaining heads are completely within it, then it is slld downwardly or upwardly until the openings 1n the finishin strip have passed the retaming heads. It .w11l thus be seen that I have provided an improved bar which resiliently holds the glass In place and allows forexpanslon and contraction, and in which the retamlng means can be drawn up from the exterior, also an improved finishing strip which can be readily and quickly secured 1n place after the glass has been installed and the retalning members drawn up.
In installing my device the inner retaming member 10 is first positioned in place, the glass 19 is then positioned against the flanges 11, the outer channel retaining member 12 is then placed in position with its flanges 13 against the glass, screws 14 are then placed in position and the inner and outer members drawn toward each other by rotating the screws in the proper direction by means of a screw driver or the like until the edge of the glass is tightly gripped between the flanges 11 and 13. To complete the installation and present a neat appearance and protect the retaining screws from the weather, the finishing strip 16 is then placed so that the openings register with the retaining heads 17 and then given a partial rotation either to the right or left, as thecase may be, until the retaining edges are completely within it, then it is slid upwardly or downwardly, as the case may be, until the apertures pass the retaining head.
While I have described the particular form of my invention illustrated in the drawings as being applied to a store front, it is, of course, obvious that it may be utilized in almost any construction for securing the ed e or edges of the lass in place, for examp e, show cases and t e like.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described an inner glass retaining member, an outer glass retaining member, a -headed fastening de-' vice connecting said glass retaining members for drawing said outer member toward said inner member and operable from the exterior, a headed extension on said outer glass retaining member, and a slotted weather strip provided with an opening in one of its sides, connecting with the slot whereby said opening may be passed over.

3. In a glass holding device, an outer glass retaining member, a slotted weather strip provided with an opening in one of its sides, said opening being connected with 'the slot, and a headed fastening device secured to the outer retaining member where by said headed device may be passed through said opening and into said slot to permit said weather strip to be secured in position.
4. In a device of the class described, an inner glass retaining member, an outer glass retaining member, means for draw ing the outer member toward the inner member, said means being operable from the exterior, a slotted weather strip provided with an opening in one of its sides and a headed fastening device secured to the outer member and adaptedto pass through said-opening andslot to hold the weather strip in position.
5. In a device of the class described, an inner glass retaining member, an outer glass retaining member, means operable from the exterior for securin the two in place, a headed member secure to the outer glass retainin member and having its head spaced there rom, a slotted weather strip adapted to cover the exterior end ofthe headed member and securing means, one edge of said weather strip being provided, with a notch, o ening into the slot, so that the notch may e slipped over the headed FRANCISC.
