Description

MAGNUS EnwAR-n JERNBERG, or GOWDERY, MANITOBA, CANADA.
COW-MILKER PUMP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it'known that I, MAGNUS a resident of Cowdery, Province'of Manitoba, Dominion of Canada, have invented .a new and Improved Cow-Milker Pump, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. 7 I
This invention relates to a machine for milking cows, and it has for its general ob jects to improve and simplify the construction and operation of apparatus of this character so as to be reliable and efficient in use, comparatively easy to operate and keep in sanitary condition, and so designed that a plurality of cows can be milked at the same time.
A more specific object of the invention is the provision of a multiple cylinder suction pump in which each cylinder has one or more devices for attachment with the udders of the cow or cows, the pistons of the pumps being operated by a single lever and the parts of the pump being readily taken apart for cleaning and repalring.
WVith such o'b'ects in view, and others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with particularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate one embodiment of the invention,
The figure is a side view of the machine with a portion in section to illustrate the details of construction.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the frame of the truck or carriage which has wheels 2 whereby the madhine can be easily moved from place to place, and on the frame is a pair of upright pump cylinders 3, the pistons of which are operated by a lever 4: fulcrumed at 5 on a supporting post 6, and the pumps are adapted to be connected with the udders of cows by means of suction devices 7 each attached to a hose 8.
Each pump cylinder has a threaded opening 9 at its bottom into which screws a tubular neck 10 that is fastened to a valve box 11, said valve box being formed with a suction chamber 12 at its bottom which enters openings 13 in the frame 14 on the truck 1, and this chamber has a plurality of cocks 15 to each of which is attached a suction tube or hose 8. Between the chamber 16 of the Specification of Letters Patent.
. E. JERNBERG, a subject of the King-of Great Britain, and
valve box 11 and'the chamber 12 is an inlet or suction valve 17. The valve box has a partition 18 provided with a port 19 that is controlled by a discharge valve 20 past Patented Feb. 25, 1919.
' Application filed J'anuary 10, 1918. SerialNo. 211,190.
which milk flows into the discharging chamber 21. The discharging chamber is connected with a common delivery pipe 22. The suction and discharge valves are of similar construction and each is carried by an arm 23 fulcrumed at 24 on a block 25 removably fastened in place by thumbscrews 26. The pipe 22 is carried by a removable cover plate 22 which is applied to the top of the chamber 21 that has an opening closed by the cover plate.
In the pump cylinder is a piston 27 having an upwardly extending rod 28 which is connected by a link 29 with the operating lever 4:. The rod 26 passes through a cap 30 screwed on the upper end of the cylinder, and clamped between the cap and the handles or grip members 31 is a supporting plate 32 which has openings 33 to embrace the cylinders, and on this plate 32 is the supporting post 6. The handles 31 facilitate the screwing and unscrewing of the cylinder in attaching it to or detaching it from the neck-piece 10, and on each cap 30 are handle members 3 1 for permitting the caps to be easily removed. In this manner the parts of the pump can be quickly disconnected for cleaning or any other purpose.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and method of operation will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to whidh the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation, together with the machine which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the machine shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A machine of the class described comprising a supporting structure, a plurality of upright cylinders removably mounted thereon, pistons in the cylinders, rods connected with the pistons, a plate having openings for receiving the upper ends of the cylinders, means for removably clamping guides for the piston rods, and an operating lever supported bythe plate and operatively connected Withall the pistons;
2. A machine of the class describecl.co1n-. prising a supporting structure, a plurality of upright cylinders mounted thereon, pis tons in the cylinders, across plate having openings for receiving the upper: ends of,
the cylinders, means on the cylinders on Which the cross platebears, acap ;=appli'ed to the upper. endaofeach cylinder to form a; head therefor.- and. for.- holding the orossplate in-place, a .post mountedon thecrossplrrte,v
a lever carried. by the post, and rods con nected with the lever and Withithe pistons.
3; The-,combinationpof a framehaving an automatically seating inlet valve' ineachi valve,box outletcvalves between the valve boxes and said chamber, pumping cylinders connected with the; valve boxes, p stonsiln;
thesaid; cylinders, a plate: removablyg fastened toathea cylinders," and an operating means von the; plate and connected \vithz the menus EDWARD-JERNBERG.
