Description
A. w. MURRAY; I improvement in. Weather-Boarding.
Patented July 9,1872.
PATENT OFFICE.
AnnREw w. MURRAY, or DUNKIRK, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-BOARDING.
Specification forming part df Letters Patent No. 128,896, dated July 9, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, A. W. MURRAY, of Dunkirk, in the county, of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weather-Boarding; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
I The nature of my invention consists in the construction of lumber for weather-boarding, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and-operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a side view of my weather-boarding.
A A represent the boards used for weatherboarding. Along the upper edge of each board is cut a V or wedgeshaped flange, b, extending from the front side to the rear side; or a shoulder, a, may be formed along the inner, as shown. The under edge of each board has along the innr side a groove, d, corresponding in shape with the flange b, so that it may fit upon the flange of the board below. The front side of the board at this lower edge projects a suitable distance downward forming the lap e, which hides the nails driven in an inclined pgsition through each" board near the upper e ge.
This construction of the lumber enables the workmen to work more rapidly in weatherboarding a building, and to make tighter fitting joints than with the usual tongue-and groove lumber.
The lower edge of the lap 0 may be hollowed out, which would effectually keep the water from the joint.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The boards A A provided or out along their upper edges with wedges b, and on their lower edges with V-sha-ped grooves. d and laps c, all substantially asand for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
ANDREW W. MURRAY.
