CHILDS DRE-SS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1918.
Application filed October 26, 1916. Serial no. 127,747.
To aZZ whom it mayboncem: V 7
Be it known that I, LOUIS BORGENICHT,
of the city, county, and State of New York,
have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Childrens Dresses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates in general to a childs dress and particularly relates to a two-piece dress, each piece of which is a complete article of commerce in itself.
- Theprimary object of the invention is to provide-a simple form of childs dress of the class described which can arranged to give either one of simply by varying the manner in which .the'two pieces are assembled.
be readily two. effects I attain this object broadly by providing a particular form of blouse with buttons bothinside and out at the waist portion and position a skirt as described either over or underthe lower portion of the blouse and fasten the same to the proper line of buttons.
Various other objects and advantages of the invention will be in part obvious from an inspection of the accompanying drawings and in part will be more fully set forth in the following particular description of one form of tion, and the tain new and novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying draw- 1ngs:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a twopart dress constituting a preferred embodiment of my invention, with the parts assembled to form a simple blouse and skirt effect and with parts broken away to show the interior buttons;
Fig. 2 is the same dress assembled to form a Russian blouse effect.
In the drawings there is shown an upper body garment 3 hereinafter identified as a blouse having a belt portion 4 and a short skirt portion 5 extending below the belt portion. The blouse is fastened down the front by means of fastening devices such as the buttons and button hole connection 6 and mother respects resembles the conventional form of such articles of apparel now in general use. The following in appearance of the conventional form of one known type is carried out by providing a deep belt 7 at the belt portion which belt is fastened to the p The blouse also portion is toward distortion of. garment embodyingmy inven-- minlmlzed.
invention also consists in cergarment and laps across the front opening.
includes conventional forms of vertically extending plaits 8 which pass across the belt portion at front-and back and extend totheshouldersj of the garment.
The blousediffers from the known-forms of such articles, however, in that the belt provided with two lines of buttons. One line of'buttons is fastened to the blouse exteriorly of the same with certain of the buttons 9 fastened to the plaits and others lOj'fastened to the belt betweenadjacent plaits.
The other line of buttons 11 is fastened to the inside of the blouse preferably with the threads fastening the button on one 1 side passing through the belt and plain blouse or through the belt andplaited portion of the blouse to similarly fasten the corresponding button on the opposite side. This particular locating inforces the material of the blouse for strains on the buttons are transferred partly at least to the belt and partly to theplaits.
of the buttons re- As these-'plaits extend to the shoulder of the wearer thestrains are distributed along double thicknesses of material and tendency the garment-: is
When the separable skirt is fastened to V and covering up the the exterior buttons skirt portion of and skirt effect Fig. 1. 7
Should the separable skirt be fastened to the interior line of buttons with the blouse skirt partially over-draping the separable skirt, the Russian blouse efl'ect shown in Fig. 2 is produced.
By means of an article of this character, four different garments are produced, the blouse and skirt may be used separately or either of the effects shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may be provided. The additional buttons in no way detract from the appearance of the dress and to all effects the conventional form of dress is preserved. 7
Further other effects may be produced,
the blouse a simple blouse is provided as shown in such for instance as providing a light blouse Due to the reinforcements provided by der plait-s the weight of the heavy skirt will have little if any efiect on the blouse for any pull will be taken up by the strong plaits.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A two-piece childs dress comprising a blouse provided with a belt portion and a short skirt portion extending below the belt portion, said belt portion provided with a line of buttons positioned exteriorly of the same and a line of buttons positioned on the inside of the belted portion and a separable skirt provided with a waist band having button-holes for engaging the exteriorly positioned buttons with the skirt overlapping the skirt portion of the blouse to form a blouse and skirt effect or for engaging the interior buttons with the skirt portion of the blouse overlapping the upper portion of the separable skirt to form a Russian blouse and skirt eflect.
2. A two-piece childs dress comprising a blouse provided with a belt portion and a short skirt portion extending below the belt portion, said belt portion provided with a line of buttons positioned exteriorly of the same, a line of buttons positioned on the inside of the belted portion, a separable skirt provided with a waist band having buttonholes for engaging the exteriorly positioned buttons with the skirt overlapping the skirt effect or for engaging the interior buttons Gopiea of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing air:
short skirt portion extending below the belt portion, said belt portion provided with a line of buttons positioned exteriorly of the same, a line of buttons positioned on the inside of the belted portion, a separable skirt provided with a waist band having button-holes for engaging the exteriorly positioned buttons with the skirt overlapping the skirt portion of the blouse to form a blouse and skirt effect or for engaging the interior buttons with the skirt portion of the blouse overlapping the upper portion of the separable skirt to form a Russian blouse and skirt effect, said blouse including a plurality of plaits extending across the belt portion to the shoulder portion of the blouse with certain of said buttons fastened to the plaits, said plaits designedtotransmit strains on said certain buttons to the shoulder portion of the blouse.
Signed at New York city in the county of New York and State of New York this 23rd day of October, A. D. 1916.
