,jAeoB BtoeH oF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF TO ABE* BLOOH, OF-
To all whom "it mayicchcema 3 I Be" itLknown that I, JACOB BLooH, a citizen of the United'States, residing at Cincinnati, in the-county of Hamilton andState of Ohio, have inv'ented certain new and usefulilm provements in Semivests and Trousers; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear'fi'and exact description ofthe-invention,
such as will enable others skilled in theart to which itfappertains to make and ;use the same'n 2 I,
This invention relates to wearing apparel,
and more particularly to pantaloons or trousers designed to be wornwith a shirt- To avoid the necessity for using suspendr ers' forsupport ng the trousersor pantaloons, especlally 1n summer-time it hasqbeen a" com1non"p'ra'ctice to formor provide loops upon the walst-band to receivea beltwhich may beg tightened about the waist, and various other contrivanc es have been employed for tightening the waist-band, inerder -to support the trousers withouttheaid of suspenders. It has also beena common-practies to place buttons or other fastening means on the inside of the waist-band for attaching suspenders with concealed fastenings, But the unsightly appearance produced by using suspenders or other visible means of support renders such contrivances objectionable, and much discomfort is experienced in using a belt, which often affords insufficient means of support, and necessitates the readjustment of the trousers and other wearin apparel at varioustimes in order to enab e the wearer to present a neat appearance. a i
The objects of my invention are to dispense with the use of either belt or suspenders for supporting the trousers and to so construct' the waist portion of the trousers as to produce a semi-vest appearance in place of or over the usual waist-band, the waist and semi-vest portion being of corset-form construction adapted to fit about the waist and over the hips,in such manner that the trousers willbe self-supporting and at the same time will present a neat and attractive appearance and avoid the objections incident to using a belt or suspenders.
The. invention will first be hereinafter companying drawings, which are to be taken I CINCINNATI, OHIO. sEMIvEs'r AND frRoUsERsQ i A Specification of'Letters en. Patented June 3o, 1e0s.' Applicationfiled September 190. 7. Serial No. 393,546., i i

letter- A denotes the body of" he, trousers made in the usual mannerbiit without the r usual wa st-band, the latter being' merged m an upward extension forminga semrvest ortion B. As shown, thesemi-vest portion takes the place of the usual waistband, producing the appearance of the lower part of a vest over-lying the waist-band, and is referably provided in front with pockets iiaving flaps C, C, depending from the entrance to said pockets, the flap being secured along the upper edge thereof to the upper edge of the lower portion of the fabric forming the outer wall of the pocket, as shown in in Fig. 7, and having a line of stitches a short distance below said edge, whereby a socket D, is formed extending horizontally or transversely of the pocket and adapted to receive and hold a pencil.
The semi-vest portion B may be formed l front to' the rear extremity of the section,
being narrowest at the rear. The front sec-, tions are rovided, one wlth buttons, and the other wit button-holes, as at b, simulating the button fasteningls upon the lower portion of the vest of a fu dress-suit. The semivest-and waist portions of the garment are of corset-form construction, a dart as at a, be

The utility and advanta es of my improve om the foregoing description taken in connection with the ac- It will be seen from wearer wit ers or any supporting means other than theholding a pencil or the like.
i Witnesses the application of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawings that the trousers are-supported upon the out the aid of a be t or suspendtrousers themselves, and present avery neat er'son of the and attractive a pearance, and by such means 'rumpling o theshirt-Waist or bosom is avo ded, which is a very desirable feature,' rumplmgbeing'one of the obj ections'incident to the use of a belt.
