To all whom it may concern:

ABe it known that I, BERNHARD URBAND, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York city, Bronx county, State of New York, -have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Traveling- Baigs, of which the following is a full','clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in identification tabs for traveling bags, suit-cases and the like, the object ofthe in- `vention being to provide a tab having a pocket to receive a card containing the address of the owner of the satchel or the like or any other indication of ownership, and in combination with the tab, I provide a protecting cover for the tab, the tab and its cover preferably consisting of (in this instance) two separate and distinct elements which` are secured, independently of each other, to their respective separably connected satchel-members.V The tab and its cover are preferably secured, at one end thereof, to their respective separably con nected members adjacent the lock for said members, and at opposite sides thereof. When the tab and its cover are secured together, the said cover will overlap the lock; hence said lock cannot be reached for the insertion of a key and the metal of the lock will be protected against rain and injury. The tab and its cover, can be used to separate the separably connected satchel members after they have been unlocked.

I will now proceed to describe my inveir tion in detail, the novel features of which I will point out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a bag or satchel embodying my improvement Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view thereof, the tab and its cover being illustrated as connected; and

In Fig. 1 the numerals d and 5 indicate the separably connected members of a Lsatchel or the like, provided with a look 6 to connect same. The numeral 7 indicates a tab consisting of (in this instance) two laminations or members 8 and 9 stitched together at 10 to provide a pocketll to receive a card 12 or'the like. The tab 7 is provided, at

one end, with a member 13 of a fastening device, a snap-socket for instance, the opposite end of said tab being securedr to the satchel member 5, as at 14, by sewing, riveting or otherwise. The other element of my improvement consists of a cover 15 having at. one end a fastening-member 16 to cooperate with the member 13, a button for instance. The opposite end of the cover 15 is secured in any Ldesirable manner to the satchel-member 4.

It will be seen that the tab and cover are separate members independently secured to the satchel. As can be seen in Fig. 2, the cover 15 will overlap and concealthe lock 6 when said cover 15 and tab 7 are secured together. When positioned as indicated in Fig. 1, the tab and its cover may be used as handles to pull the satchel members 4 and 5 apart, after they have been unlocked. The cover 15 also serves to protect the identification card or its transparent covering 18. When roughly handled or packed with other articles, the identifying cards,.usually employed, become damaged 0r entirely destroyed, for the reason that they are not protected and are usually rigidly secured to the bags or satchels. As the tab 7 is more or less flexible, it will, to a large extent, resist rough handling, as it will yield, should it come in contact with other articles, espe cially if the satchel is tossed into a car or baggage-room or upon a truck.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. In combination with a bag or the like, a flexible identification tab secured at one end thereof toy one of the separably connected members of the bag, and a flexible cover secured at one end thereof to the other member of the bag, and means to secure the identification tab and its cover together, the identification tab and the cover therefor when` separated also serving as handles to pull the bag-members apart.

2.7In` combination with a bag or the like having separably connected members, a lock to secure said members together, a flexible identification tab secured, at one end thereof, to one of said bag members at one side of the lock therefor, a cover for the lock and tab, secured at one end thereof to the other bag member at the opposite side of the lock, and means to secure .the identification tab and its cover together, said cover being arranged to overlap the lock when secured to said tab.
