TED STATES PATENT OFFICE DALLAS W. STAINBROOK AND RAY H. WINTER, CALDWELL, IDAHO.
COMBINATION IMPLEMENT.
Application filed August 6', 1917. Serial No. 184,723."
To all whom it may concern?- Be it known that'we, DALLAS W. STAIN- BROOK and RAY H. WINTER, citizens of the United States, residing at Caldwell, in the county of Canyon and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Implements, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a combination implement and more particularly to a combination implement in the form of a pair of scissors and has as its primary object to provide an efficient and compact tool of this character which may be readily and easily operated with great facility.
A second object of our present invention is to provide a combination implement or tool, which may be used to great advantage by dressmakers o1 tailors.
It is another object of our invention to provide a device of this general character which has the necessary devices for a dressmaker or tailor, all of which are mounted so that they can be readily used and in a way which will avoid displacement of the various devices or articles.
It is another object of the invention to provide an implement of this character which is efficient and durable in use and consists of few easily assembled operating parts, which can be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost, and which maybe used to great advantage by persons engaged in dressmaking or the like.
The above general objects and others Will be discussed during the course of the following description and the inventive features will be claimed at the end thereof.
The invention consists of the construction and arrangement of cooperating parts and the manner of operation all of which will be specifically set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pair of scissors or shears embodying our inventive idea.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation looking from the rear end of the finger engaging loops.
Fig. 3 is a view looking down upon the upper edge of our improved scissors.
ig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. l and looking toward the needle holding handle and,
Fig. 5 is a slightly modified form of a chalk holding arrangement.
Referring to the drawings in which like specification of Letters Patent. lPatented Aug. 20,1918.
characters of reference indicate correspond -1ng parts'm all the views the numerals 5 and 6 indicate the'bladesof a pair of scissors or shears which are pivoted together and are provided with the usual handles or finger loops 8. In this instance we have illustrated a pair of scissors butthe invention is applicable to'other forms of devices.
The inner pair of the handle or finger loop 8 is formed with a longitudinal portion 9 which is provided with a longitudinal bore. This longitudinal portion constitutes a needle holding chamber and has a removable cap threaded in one end thereof, this cap is designated by the numeral 10.
Formed in this finger loop or handle 8 at the inner end thereof is a recess 11 in which is rotatably mounted a tracing wheel 12 which rotates on the shaft 13 extending transversely through this end portion of the handle or finger loop. Normally inclosing this tracing which is hinged as at 15 and carries a resilient latch 16 for retaining the cover or guard in position to overlie this tracing wheel.
The finger loop or handle 7 is provided with a recess or chalk retaining chamber 17 Which accommodates the marking element such as chalk. This piece of chalk is desigwheel 15 a cover or guard 14 nated by the numeral 18. The chalk holdmg arrangement just described is clearly shown in Fig. 1. In Fig. 5 we have shown a slightly modified arrangement which consists of a recess similar to the form shown in Fig. 1, which is for the purpose of accommodating the chalk, overlying which is a hinged cover 19.-
Mounted in the recess in the forward end of the handle or finger loop 7 is a substantially Y-shaped resilient clip which is in parallelism and alinement with the shank of the cutting blade 6. The ends of this clip '20 are longitudinally curved in opposite ditions other than the ones herein specified. I The constructlon can be altered and modlfied V as the occasion may require in accordance having a recess with the herewith appended claims.
What is claimed is: v
1. The combination With a pair of scissors formed in one of itshandle loops, of a marker secured in said-recess, a projection formed at one end of said recess, and a curved resilient guard having one end pivotally secured to said finger loop at the opposite end-of said recess and its free-end engageable With said projection.
2. The combination with a ,pair ofscissors Copies of this-patent may be obtained-for .five cents-each, by, addressingthe having a socket formed 'in one of its finger loops, of a thimble retalnlng member com prising a strandro'fwire bent -upon itself to provide a shank adapted to be received in said socket and then separated to provide clamping arms curving outwardly to oppo- SitG'SI'ClBS'Of said shank. i
In testimony whereof We afiiX our signa tures in presence of tWo Witnesses.
