'Tliis avenues reiatsaconnections, and particularly to such connectioiis as areemployed on pump rods, although its use is not limited to such purposes, but may time without causing extended stoppage; of the pumping operation.
With this object in view, the invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, hereinafter clescribed, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in

In the drawings, 10 indicates the pump 1 rod or pitman, on the upper end of which is attached a bushing 11 formed of two like parts 12 and 13, said parts having a semi cylindrical groove extending from end to end to bear upon and embrace the rod 10. The flat contact sides of said bushing members 12 and 13 are provided with outwardly projecting flanges 14 that bear upon each other and serve to maintain the parts in proper position with relation to each other.
The outer faces of each bushing part 12 and 13 is flat as at 15, such faces being parallel to each other and to the axis of the rod 10 and form seats for the lower ends of two plates 16 and 17, which plates are fastened to the coupling 11 by a bolt 18 passing therethrough and through the bushing as shown andbeing secured by? means of a lock nut 191011 itsoppositewefidzz The plates 17 at the upper edge-10f: the bushings 11 are inclined outwardly and away; from each other i for a short distance, as shown at 26, and then continue upwardly again parallel to eajcli other? and l to "the: axis of the rod for a suitable distance forming two" a award-W extending terminal members 21 that are connected by a bolt 22 with the eccentric strap or crank of the motive power mechanism.
Pitman connections in present use are generally formed by welding the plates 16, 17 together and then drawing them out to bring them to proper size for attachment to a bushing on the upper end of the pump rod and such constructions have a tendency to break at the welded portion, thus necessitating. stoppage and expenditure of considerable time for repairs. In the present device plates 14 are exactly alike and screwed to opposite sides of the bushing 11 by means of a single bolt which can be quickly removed and a new plate as quickly attached when through accident it becomes necessary to replace one of them. The connection is strong and simpler than the connections now in use and will give better satisfaction and cause less delay than the present connections.
What I claim is:
1. A pitman connection comprising a pitman, a two-part bushing having flat sides and adapted to surround the pitman, two similar spaced plates each having an inclined portion intermediate its ends to Vary the width between opposite ends, the ends of said plates which are closer together being adapted to bear upon the fiat sides of said bushing, a bolt passing through said plate ends, the bushing. and the pitman, and means at the opposite ends of the plate for engaging a crank or eccentric operating mechanism.
2. In a pitman connection the combination with a bushing on the upper end of the pump rod or pitman, a plate on each of two opposite sides of said bushing rigidly bolted thereto, said plates spreading laterally above said bushing for a limited distance and then continuing to their extremities in parallel relation, and means for connecting the upper ends of said plates to a crank mechanism.
3. a pitman connection, the combination with a pump rod orpitman, of a bushing formed of two like parts embracing said rod or pitman, a bolt for securing said bushing on said rod a pair of plates on opposite copies of this patent may be obtained for each other, a two-part bushing embracing said pitman having straight parallel sides against which theends of said plates which are closer together are placed, a through bolt securing said ends to the bushing and pitman and I a removable pin extending through openings in the wlder ends of said platesfor connecting the same to an operating mechanism.
