Description
Patented July 24:, 1877.
( mvlzmom ATTUBNE F A SEGERDAHL STIRRUP FOR OIL-WELL MACHINERY.
vmnassas: flaw/aw l l l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANS A. SEGEBDAHL, OF KARNS CITY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN Sl'lRRUPS FOR OIL-WELL MACHINERY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l9l,423, dated July 24, 1877; application filed May 12, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, FEANs AUGUST SEG- ERDAHL, of Karns Gity,in the county of Butler and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Stirrup for Oil-Well Machinery, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a front elevation of my improved stirrup. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
Stirrups as ordinarily constructed for oil pumps are liable to breakage, and are a constant source of trouble and expense.
The object of my invention is to provide a stirrup which shall obviate these difiiculties.
In the. drawings, A A are the side pieces of the stirrup, and B the bar that receives the strap from the walking-beam. O O are shoulders formed by drawing in the side pieces to receive the pitman. D D are stays or braces formed on the stirrup, that extend from the lower end of the side pieces to the side pieces above the shoulder G. The eyes E thus formed are filled with wood or other suitable material, and the sides of the stirrup are drilled to receive the bolts at, having beveled heads b. Beveled washers 0, having flanges that embrace the sides of the stirrup, are placed under the nuts of the bolts a.
Stirrups as commonly made are not provided with the braces D, and are constantly breaking at the shoulders C. By means of my improvement this difficulty is entirely 0bviated. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A stirrup whose inside shoulders are reenforced by outside braces D, as shown and described.
2. The bolts a, having beveled heads I), and the beveled and flanged washers c, in combination with the stirrup, substantially as herein shown and described.
FRANS AUGUST sEeEeDAEL.
Witnesses EDWARD MOSWEENEY, D. J. STEWART.
