ANDREW BARASH, OF GLOUSTER, OHIO.
GARBAGE-CAN.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ANDREW BARASH, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Glouster, in the countyof Athens and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage- Cans, of which the following is a specification.
rIhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in garbage cans.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a garbage receptacle adapted for exteriorly depositing the contents thereof automatically upon an opening of the closures therefor.
A further object is to provide a sheet metal receptacle that is lire-proof and so formed as to be odorless and at the same time adapted for the automatic discharge of its contents upon an opening of the discharge doors thereof.
A still further object is to provide a metallic garbage receptacle with a tightly closing top cover for the entrance open ing thereof and with side slide closures for the exit openings through which the entire contents of the receptacle is adapted' to automatically discharge upon a withdrawal of the said slides.
With these general objects in View and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings forminga part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in its closed position. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal vertical sectional view thereof partially broken away. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of a top corner portion of one of the slides, and Fig. is a detail sectional View of the corner mounting means for the slide closures.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the receptacle 10 is illustrated as rectangular in cross section and preferably formed of metal and adaptable for use as a garbage can. The top of said can being open, a closure lid 11 is provided hinged thereto as at 12 and retained closed in a substan- Patented N ov. 17, 1914. serial N. 833,662. i
tom a gabled base for the receptacle triani guiar in cross section and down the sides 17 of which from its apex 18, the contents i of the receptacle are adapted to slide outwardly through the opposite exit openings 19 of the receptacle.
Corner strips 2O are secured to the exterior of the receptacle ad]acent each corner thereof and have inturned flanges 21 for engaging the longitudinal end U-shaped flanges 22 of closure plates 23 and as will be evident, the plates 23 are readily elevated and lowered in their sliding movement by grasping the handle 24: carried by each of the said plates.
From this construction it will be seen that a garbage receptacle substantially air tight and therefore odorless is provided while the entrance thereto is readily attained by moving the lid .l1 upon its hinges.
A lip 25 is provided at the bottom of each of the exit openings 19 and adapted to receive the bottom edge of the closure plates 23 seated therein when such lates are in their closed positions. Upon e evating the closure plates the garbage within the receptacle is precipitated by gravity down the inclined sides 17 of the triangular or gabled bottom structure where the same readily passes out of said exits 19 and in this manner the said receptacle is selfemptying while being of a metallic formation is easily flushed or washed.
W'hile the forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be preferable embodiments thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form, proportion and details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the Centrally positioned interiorly of said easing and forming,Y a double inclined bottom, said casing provided with vopposite exit openings at the opposite base lines of said triangular base and'positioned at the bottoms of said openings7 soeketed lips upon the outer bottom edges of the doubleinolined bottom and positioned beneath said exit openings, verticallynrranged flanged strips carried by the corners of said casing adjacent the exit openings, closure slides having U-shaped angle flanges engaging the said strips and slidably mounted over said ing finger grip carried by the upper edge of each slide.
In testimony whereof I aHiX Iny signature 1n presence of two Witnesses.
ANDREW BARASH.
Witnesses JOHN SARINO, JOHN Kooi-11s.
