GEORGE GARPET-SWEEPER ATTACHMENT.
A. '.DOHN AND FREDRICK Gr. MYERS, 0F SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patmfed Ma. 14, 19160 application :nea necemter aa, 1914. seria1 No. 878,568.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE A. DOHN kand FREDRICK G. MYERS, citizens-of the United States, residing at Santa Rosa, in the county of Sonoma and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Carpet-Sweeper Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a carpet sweeper regulated, the attachment being of novel form for assurmg the proper sprinkling of the brush in the sweeper and also the perfect working of the same.
A 4further object of the invention is the provision ofan attachment of this character which can be readily applied to a carpet sweeper without altering or rearranging any of its parts, and also which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and elficient in its action, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With theseand other objects in-view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafterfully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing. in the claim hereunto appen In the drawing Figure longitudinal pet sweeper with :the attachment constructed in accordance" with the invention ded.
I applied thereto. Fig. 2 'is a vertical transf verse sectional view thereof.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts .throughout the several views inthe drawing. y
' Referring to the ,drawing in detail, A
designates a .portion of the body or casing of a carpet sweeper,
usual driving wheels, or rollers which operate the revolving brush C deslgnedA to clean carpets, floors' or the like, while supand pointed outl 1 is a vertical sectional viewthrough a carwhich is of the ordi, nary well-known construction, having the ported upon the body or casing is the attachment hereinafter fully described.
. The attachment comprises. a tank 5 adapted to contain water or cleaning fluid, and 1s superimposed upon the top ofthe body or casing A, the straps 6 being designed to iiX the tank thereon. Locatedv centrally within. the tank 5 is an outlet tube 7 which extends' through the bottom of the said tank and the top of the body or casing A for engagement with the coupling nipple 8 of a sprinkling head( in the form of a pipe 9 having a plurality spaced vspray nozzles 10 which project into the path of the bristles of the brush C for delivering fluid thereto. Threaded in the outlet tube 7 within the tank 5 is av needle valve 11 which is adapted to engage in a valve seat 12 formed in the of outwardly tapered nipple 8. the tube 7 being formed withv diametrically' opposed apertures or holes` 13 for delivering fluid from the tank 5 into the head 9 on the opening of the need-le valve 11 which. at its outer end, is formed with ahand disk'll so that it may befm'anually manipulated for the adjustmentthereof to regulate thesupply of fluid from the tank 5 to the spraying head 9. which delivers the fluid to the brush C of the sweeper. Y
The head 9 is fastened interiorly of the body'or casing A through the medium of strap hangers 15 which are fastened to the inner face of the top of the body or casing 'A in any suitablemanner. The tankv 5 is formed with a'rounded bottom 16so that the fluid therein will be directed to the aperturesor holes 13 which are located contiguous toqthe lowermost point of the bottom 16 so thatlthe contents of the tank 5 can be readily drained therefrom.
The top of the tank 5 is fitted with a capped filling neck 17 through which is introduced the fluid moval of the capfrom' the said neck.
By adjusting -the needle valve 11 the required amount of fluid from the tank 5 will be delivered to the brush C of the vsweeper during the use thereof.
From the foregoing description, taken in i connection with the accompanying drawing, the constructloniand manner of operation of the vdevice will be clearly understood, and
therefore a more extended 1explanation has into the tank 5 on the reof an attachment comprising a water reservoir fixed upon the body of the sweeper and having a central vertically disposed perforated tube interiorly thereof and eX- tended through the topof the body of said sweeper, adelivery pipe interiorly of the body of the sweeper and having a plurality of discharge nozzles at 4 intervals thereof throughout the length of the same, an eX- ternally threaded nipple-on the pipe and detachably engaged in the inner end of the tube to form a valve seat, and a. needle GEORGE A. DOHN` FREDRICK G. MYERS.
