ELISABETH BONESTELL, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
HEEL-PROTECTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1, 1913.
Application filed December 12, 1912. Serial No. 736,443.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISABETH Bonn- STELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sanllrancisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Heel-Protecting Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invent-ion relates to new and useful improvements 1n heel protecting devices for shoes, etc., and comprises a simple and efficientdevice of this nature, having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which I have shown the application ofmy invention as applied to the foot of a person.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a heel pad or portion of the device, made preferably of the form shown in the drawings and of chamois or other suitable material, and B is a section of the leg of a sock which is fastened about substantially half its circumference at its lower edge to the upper edge of the heel portion.
D designates an elastic strap which is fastened at its ends D to the opposite edges of the heel pad and a portion of the lower edge of the leg section of the stocking is fastened to the inner edge of said strap.
Then the parts are adjusted for use, it
the foot of the'wear-er as the elastic strip holds the lower edge up under the instep so that it cannot slip and still the yielding of the strap will not interfere with the natural movements of the foot. The elastic strap fastened as shown will also bring the lower edge of the heel and the seam of the heel pad up underneath the foot where it will not be felt by a person when walking. By the provision of the space between the strap and the elastic instep or lower portion of the leg of the hose, the chamois skin will lie fiat against the heel without wrinkling.
What I claim to be new is I A heel protecting device comprising a leg section, a heel pad fastened at its upper edge to the lower edge of said section and extending only partially about the same, an elastic strap fastened at its ends to the forward edge of said heel pad and having its outer edge in al-inement with an inclined edge of said heel pad, the inner edge of said elastic strap fastened to the lower edge of the leg section over the instep with a space intervening between the inner edge of the strap and a free portion of the lower edge of the leg section, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ELISABETH BONES 'IELL. Witnesses:
