Abstract

An exhaust gas purification apparatus is linked with a throttle valve in a two-stroke cyclic engine that contains a flow metering valve regulating the area of the exhaust outlet. When the throttle valve is turned down, the flow metering valve adjusts the Ks value, which is a ratio of the exhaust passageway area to the cross sectional area of the exhaust pipe, to fulfill a relationship of 0.02 <= Ks <= 0.4. Likewise, the Kv value, which is a ratio of the exhaust volume of the cylinder to the pipe volume between the exhaust outlet and the flow metering valve, is controlled within a range from 1 to 5.
